Scott Gerfen leaving 610

Being a listener of Corby in the afternoon, I heard that Scott Gerfen (sp) is leaving after nearly 20 years with 610? I think they said he started out as an intern back in 1992. That's a long time to work at a station and not leave for something other than a layoff or being fired which is what you typically see at 610.
I know it's not a big news maker but the posts have been a bit thin lately. :)
Anyone know why he's leaving or where he's going? Seems to be a decent reporter.
 
I think Speedway pays more?

I think things are changing once again at TVN. Joel mentioned in a facebook post the other day that he was dropping his association with the Big Bass Brothers as "I wasn't necessarily happy to make the move, but the company has other plans for me".

You know, you're right! Although there's a good, obvious reason for that. Tell you what, I'll do something about the situation right now, I'll put something fairly massive up under the WCRS-LP subject heading. Might take an hour or two to compose, but I think everyone here knows that the wait will be worth it. ;D - me, :mad: - you guys.

Dave Maetzold was filling in for Joel this morning and mentioned that "Joel wasn't on vacation" but busy this week working on a big announcement to occur next Monday. Should be interesting to see what happens.

At least we know Joel still has a gig at WTVN.

Will this be a really big announcement or another dud like in the past.
 
Makes me wonder if he's getting a partner and/or going to be heard in more than one market.
 
Dave Maetzold said this morning that Joel is busy working from deep inside his bunker at his home in
Mount Vernon, Ohio. This announcement is "Top Secret" and Joel will make the announcement
next week.
 
Might be something for Joel later in the morning? Joel is leaving the Big Bass Brothers, and they usually go to lunch in the 11:00 hour.

Honestly TVN did a lot better before they added all the syndicated talkers... I think they should be "live" morning, mid mornings, drive and evening.. Keep Rush on 12-3 and C2C overnights.

Columbus is a big enough market that focused, well done local talk can do well.

Glenn Beck has been in flux ever since he left Fox News. I can't see them dropping Rush. I can't remember all of the local talkers as I didn't listen to 'TVN much, but wasn't one of them Sterling, who also did afternoons on 105.7 when they did Channel Z in the late '90s/early part of 2000? Syndicated talkers are the way CC will go since they have all of that massive debt piled up unfortunately, and I agree, local programming would be the way to go.
 
Dave Maetzold said a few times this morning that he is filling in for Joel as if Joel will return to his regular morning shift next week.

How did you get your info? All that has been announced by Dave Maetzold is that Joel will still
be doing a morning show when he returns next week.

This must have something to do with the morning show ratings slipping from the #1 slot?
About a year ago, the WTVN GM walked in on Joel's show and told him that his morning show was
the #1 rated morning show in all of Columbus.

Must remember that half about what's said on the air when talking "shop talk" is designed to tantalize and throw off the true behind the scenes story.

Still got to wonder if they are teaming Joel with a partner and they are working out the "chemistry" elements between them. SI?

It was announced this morning that Joel Riley will be back at 5:30 AM next Monday morning.
Maybe this won't happen as it's not an official announcement from station management?

Any way it was mentioned that Joel is no way on vacation because he is hard at work at a bunker
inside his house. He is still working on his top secret being designed for his show. A Helicopter with heat seeking devices has flown over his house with no news.
 
As far as radio stunts go this Joel in the bunker theme is extremely weak.
Local radio is in trouble and having Joel aka "Mr. Milquetoast" in drive-time is not helping.

I used to be a major fan of 'tvn but now the only part I listen to regularly is Corby.
