Saw this on another forum.

Scott Kahler, former production director at WTVN found dead in his home at 61.

I first became familiar with Kahler when he did mid-days at WBNS in the early 70's. Later returned to Columbus to do mornings when Q-FM-96 made it's debut. Later was made production director.

I understand that prior to joining WBNS he was program director for the old WBBY when they signed on.

I've had the opportunity to know Scott for over 11 years now, and he is a voice that will truly be missed! The Scioto Downs spots will never be the same!

Of all the casualties of the Clear Channel budget ax, Scott's firing (let's call it for what it is) was the one that really angered me the most.

Scott voiced all my spots on WTPG, and he was the consummate professional.

The most recognized voice on Columbus radio has now been silenced forever.

I'm left speechless. :(

I'm so sorry to hear this. Does anyone know of a cause of death yet?

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I was the person who hired Scott to do mornings when we started Q-FM-96 in 1977. Of course his production skills were awesome, and I wasn't surprised that he remained in that room making radio magic for 30 years through all the ownership and management changes. Still stunned that he was allowed to leave the building last year. May he rest in peace.

I also knew Scott from his "Saddle Shoe Radio" days at 'BNS. He encouraged me to maintain contact with the PD until I signed on doing afternoons back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. I'll remember him forever.

Scott was a remarkable, kind and genuine man. He will be missed dearly.

Columbus has truely lost a legend. Scott really made me feel welcome when Jacor bought our station, and we moved into the "Broadcast Lake" studios. He was an awesome, funny and talented guy. I will miss him. It was an honor knowing him. :'(

The obit in the Columbus Dispatch says he was a graduate of Northridge High School.

The obit also said he retired. If that be true, I hope he got some serious retirement money.

I didn't know him but when I arrived in the market, I decided he had absolutely the most unique and thererby, most memorable voice in the market. And whomever has the job of replacing him on Scioto Downs....well, I don't envy them! (Maybe they should try a female!) Anyway, Scott, R.I.P.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Chris Joos? He was a friend of Scott's and I want to let him know.

If you will contact me privately via this site, I will try to get you a phone number. I used to have it and will attempt to locate it for you.

Scott was quite a talent and it is hard to imagine WTVN without his voice.
