Laudani To Program WPLR
COX Rocker WPLR/NEW HAVEN, CT announced today that SCOTT LAUDANI will be their new PD effective FEBRUARY 2nd. [EDIT]

[EDIT-Citation exceeds amount of permissible content under Fair Use standards and has been truncated as a result.]

Sounds like he's leaving on his own. Wonder if there's discontent there. You can't really say rats are leaving a sinking ship since HJY is the one ship in the building that isn't sinking. Regardless of who succeeds him the station will end up sounding the same other than maybe Jen following him.

He should have waited to give notice. Maybe they would have canned him Tuesday and that would have been Clear Channel's Providence layoff allotment and that way everybody wins. Or maybe not. So who gets the gig? Probably nobody in the building. Maybe someone programming the closest Clear Channel rocker can take on another station. HJY can roll along on its own. Running that place isn't rocket science as long as you have enough worker ants.

I'm sure those privy to info already had an inkling of what's supposedly coming down next week with programming budget cuts and consolidation of back office operations. That could be a big reason why Scott looked for work before the hammer hit, although HJY PD changes every 3 to 5 years isn't unusual. A while ago on Geoff Charles' blog he mentioned that with the FCC under Obama there would be more freedom and listeners would get the kind of radio they want. I think he expected a lot of restrictions to be lifted and HJY could get edgier. I wonder what he thinks now.

I don't think you'll see "someone programming the closest Clear Channel rocker" running the station any time soon. It'll be someone you don't expect.
