Scott Shannon - Day 1 Reviews Boos and Clues

I'm going to be listening to it on the way to work. But if they WHERE going for the same audience, the Todd show cast of rookies should be worried. Scott has on everyone with experience, that knows how to talk based on what I've read so far. listening to meatballs would pale in comparison if the two shows where going for the same audience ;o).
It'd be nice to hear cousin brucie again. Loved listening to that show.

that said, I'll still be checking out both shows from now on ;o). I like what both have to bring to the table. Scott the age of experience and Todds youthful enthusiasm. thankfully the time shifter can record both :)

Scott Shannnon on cbs fm seems to be doing what Ross Brittain does on WOGL---Phillly in am---drive.
And WOGL is cbs owned.

I like it so fare. Scott is back and better than ever. But it strikes me that after 10 ó clock with Dan Taylor everything is back to normal again. Same imaging and music as before. It’s still the core CBS FM playlist. I hope they make steps with that, with throw in more upbeat 80′s. It sounds too lousy and whimpy. A little less 60's and more focus on the late 70's and 80's with an upbeat feel.

While 70's to 80s is my favorite era, There is nothing wrong with 60s and especially 50s thrown in. especially when every other station on the dial plays the same new crap

60's and early 70's are too old for CBS FM. It's time to move forwards with adding Scott Shannon to the station. Scott reminds listeners of the old 80's/Z100 days. So the whole station move forwards. For example K-Hits in Chicago. Also a lot 80's DJ's from Chicago with the same music from that era and also the right imaging.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Put the two of them together, just like the early Z100 days...and air them on both 'CBS and 'OGL!

MAybe, but it doesn't make them any less great :)

An idea to play those songs might be have bands from the 80s re record classic hits and update them a little... could make an album off it

full shannon in the morning, minus commercials, debut

I've been monitoring the Facebook page on CBS FM.

It's amazing all the people who claim to be leaving because they miss dan taylor. I heard my first Dan Taylor yesterday. it's true he sounds younger and have more of a race taylor Radio voice.
But it's clear CBS FM wants to have a morning show like everyone else.

I wonder how many people they are loosing, compared to gaining. And I wonder how many of those leaving are 60 and older.

Let me tell you how that works. When people say they're leaving because they don't get what they want programming-wise, they're lying. For the first 6 months I was in the gig I am now, the same 3 or 4 people would call every week to complain about the idiot I replaced getting fired. A year later, they're still listening. Every single day.

I've been a loyal 101.1 fm listener since it's inception in '72. I like Shannon in the morning, it was a great move by WCBS FM. I think Taylor's low key style is better suited for the 10a-3p time slot, it is perfect for the office. I always thought Taylor was a talented DJ, never thought his style was great for morning.

BTW, I enjoy 60's and early 70's music. I have no problem with some 80's mixing in, bit not to heavy.

so, in other words, they are just like me.....they like to bitch about change because they can and are probably too lazy to go looking for another station ;o)...

Heh, what I find interesting is the Opie and Anthony crowd. I know a few people who listen to their show, and they bashed scott up for years along with their heroes. As SOON as he came on the O and A show, suddenly they are fans and start defending him. You think O and A are some kind of cult? ;o)

Exactly.

Having listened to those guys for years, I can tell you that they aren't steadfast in bashing anyone. They've even had short periods where they're ok with Howard. Anyone who goes into the lions' den, so to speak, gets their respect and that of the listeners. Scott Shannon was a good sport and damn funny on their show. They and their listeners appreciate that.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't hear anything different on scott's end. It's the same scott, only on XM he's allowed to use a bit of different language. oh well. I never got shock jocks anyway. I'm more of a cousin brucie type ;o)

He didn't have Todd belittling every contribution he tried making. That was different.

true, but no different than when he went solo when todd was on vacation. I guess I've been listening so long, I just don't notice it anymore.

For folks who missed it, here is Joe Nolan's 'Kickoff' speech for 2014

And the return of Brad Blanks

Also, question. Has Debbie been with Dan for a long time? I just heard her for the first time this week, and she was likeable. I wonder if she's been planning this move for a while, or just figured now would be a good time to get out :).

It's really interesting reading the reactions by 'radio geeks' over on the doctors board. I've personally learned to ignore his opinions over the years, once I found out he really doesn't know anymore than the average radio fan.... but the other folks. It's almost exactly the polar Opposite of what folks are bitching about on the CBS Facebook page. Over on the FB page, they complained about not enough music and too much talk.
scott, or someone who's paying attention to social media, adjusts. now we clearly hear more music compared to his first day or two (which where special shows anyway). Over on the other message board....they complain about the opposite. not enough talk, or focused talk.

Meanwhile, you've got the third group of listeners like myself who've listened to scott over the years, and just find it a comfort that he's still on air in a place where the music is more his pace. Now adays you just can't please anybody ).

I've been told Mr.Blanks might be returning when asked, so we can look forward to him popping up now and then. But as for scott's crew, I'm still hoping they bring Naomi back. on a station like CBS, having people with experience helps..

The dentist himself was the harshest critic. But it's been my experience that the older one gets, the more long-winded one becomes. It just comes from age. So you get a 67 year old DJ, put him in a place where he's no longer controlled by anyone, and you're going to get a talk show instead of a music show. I've seen it before.

I will say that some of the people at the dentist's board are actual radio guys who have worked in that market. Mainelli posts there a lot, and a few others. They generally do a bit better on the inside stuff than this board, which has a lot of people like me who have never worked in NYC, or people who have never worked in radio at all.

that's one reason why I still follow it. Having been behind the scenes myself, and even on air twice, I find it fascinating to learn about. I just find it interesting that the average listeners want more music, less talk. but the folks in/who follow the industry want just the opposite. no wonder no one listens to fans these days ;o).
