I know that Scott is feed into Atlanta, but he really beats about everyone else here that I have heard. The other day on True Oldies 106.7, he was talking about a police report that said a man was seduched by four women at a sleazy motor Court lodge and was then stripped naked, robbed and then had his "thang" glued to his belly!!!! I had to pull off the side of the road in my car because I was laughing so hard that I almost caused a wreck! Scott kept talking about the mans "thang" being glued to his belly!!! Shannon`s delivery and wit is almost as good as the large playlist on WYAY-FM True Oldies 106.7. It really makes alot of other radio stations in Atlanta look like tombs!!!

Yeah if it was the early 80's and was playing the role of Zookeeper. Didn't like him them and still don't like him today but then again I might not be his audience since the word "thang" would not cause me to wreck nor pull over to the side of the road. Perhaps I have led a less sheltered life.

I agree with you goodtimes... It's VERY refreshing to hear an actual "jock" on the air, doing something other than read liner cards and positioning statements. So many people on this board complain about the lack of creativity and passion in radio (like it used to be) and then when a great jock like shannon does good old fashioned music radio, they still complain.

The man has passion...passion for the business, passion for the music and it comes through loud and clear. You never hear him just mailing it in and it's incredible what you learn about the songs and artists he plays.

Amazing how good radio can be when "your name is on the door."

When he's doing a real content break, Shannon is very good, but it's pretty rare that I hear him do something that couldn't be just as well served with an imager of some sort. I wouldn't call that "most entertaining." All that said, I'd still give Scott Shannon a passing grade. The True Oldies Channel on the whole is a good product, for what it is.

I think that Scott Shannon is a programming pioneer. Loves the business and still obviously enjoys it when you hear him on the air. However, I do think the the original post is a little over the top.

I have been in 4 different businesses in the last week that are now playing 1067 when they have not been before.

I agree with the post that they are doing great with word of mouth.

There is nothing in the bank for marketing and promotion in the building. If O'Malley is smart he will piggy back on the Tech football stuff as best he can.

The city will not be "flooded" by Randy and Stiff advertising campaigns.

Yup, that's quality radio alright.

sigh.

(and in recognition of every thread that GT&GO starts, here some extra exclaimers for when he runs out:)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wake me up when the show's over.

In Tampa, Scott Shannon goes head to head with Tom Kent. I prefer Tom Kent because he is on a bigger stick, but I also think he is funnier and has a more subtle sense of humor. Didn't notice it at first and was mad he replaced a live and local, but I got to like him, especially when he slips in a sublte one-liner about Fox Noise.

I have no problem giving Scott Shannon a thumbs up. I listen to him at work on occasion. He comes under a category I call, "Enjoy the good ones while you have them". And then there are those who will never become anything who actually try to keep up by pre-empting and/or answering and/or translating the good ones, which makes their lack of originality evident, because it makes them sound...well...not so good.

Scott Shannon - Average jock (better at promos and announcing for Hannity). I get tired of his voice after a while. You KNOW that's not the way he speaks normally (as opposed to Wolfman Jack :))
Scott Shannon - Great PD. Music selection can't be beat for commercial radio. Really knows oldies on a national level.

Atlanta had a unique sound in the early sixties with more "soul" mixed into the Top-40 format than most other markets. That should be considered during WYAY's local segments - Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and a LOT more James Brown than just "I Feel Good".

Scott is very entertaining. The River 97.1 boring liner jocks can really learn alot from him.
