Scott Shannon Retires

Or Forcibly resigns due to budget cuts. Take your view of the story and run with it...

I'd have to say this is a complete and total shock. While I didn't know him other than in passing, he seemed to me to be the type that would die behind a microphone.
And as many of my co workers picked up on, he didn't seem like he was totally happy about it either, almost like he was so in shock,he couldn't even get the words out....with a little bit of emotion mixed in.

My money is on budget cuts. They got rid of Nolan and Metro Traffic last year (Which scott and todd handled badly on air, claiming it was Nolan's fault when he doesn't own Metro). Now Scott.
One can't help but wonder how long they'll give Todd, untill they realize they can shove an iphone in his place and get rid of him too.

although, know this cumulus.... Since your other DJ's don't have a show like S and T, or Rocky allen....I'd bet half your listeners in the morning would just up and vanish if you ever do.
You can find the music you play ANYWHERE on the dial. If you get rid of Todd, I'll be more than happy to tune in to CBS FM permanently ;o).

Yep, but those who ran them off are usually eaten alive for lunch another day by those they ran out.

Scott Shannon to WWFS, WCBS--fm, WLTW, WNOW, WKTU, WAXQ, WOR, WNYM.? Seems highly unlikely.
More likely to Sirius--XM.

While I wouldn't mind seeing scott and todd reunite on XM one day (A service they've made fun of for years, and partially rightly so)...my bet is still on CBS. Maybe Scott would be happy doing a weekend oldies show, giving his near retirement age...and a few former plj personalities have made their jump to that station as well

In my view, it's part of the natural evolution of an air talent to start in CHR, then move to Hot AC, then over to either Classic Hits or something similar. Go with your audience as you all age. No reason a guy in his middle 60s should have to feel like he has to keep up with listeners half his age. It's unfair to him and them.

I think Shannon said he stilll wants to do morning radio full time.

Shannon has been a million dollar a year man for a long time. His claim to fame has been putting a CHR station on in NYC during a period of time when there was none. He created the Zoo format where the morning show had baseball hat wearing irreverent hosts with a cast laughing at stuff that wasn't funny. He then failed big time in LA with Pirate where the format was based on what they were not. Same thing when he came back to NYC to create MOJO (no rap and no sleepy elevator music) which lasted a year and cost millions. Next up 25 years of a weirdly pushed voice on a morning show where he washed through some of the most talented people in the industry.

WPLJ has had bad ratings for a long time. The sales department had been able to sell it anyway. Not any more.

His show, in demo (and outside their wanted demo too) has been beat by much cheaper morning shows for a long time. For years ABC kept him to stop him from going someplace else. It was not a good idea then and it is not a great idea now. Cumulus actually did something smart.

here's another possibility...who's to say he'll return to NY?

Maybe he'll find a gig in florida somewhere

and as far as the morning show goes : I personally thought the show was at it's peak during 2000-2010. I never laughed so hard yet. but after brad and patty left, I noticed a slight change. The hosts started getting grumpier, shannon started to sound older (he used to basically repeat everything Todd said and made it sound like he was saying it the first time), and they started to attack nolan about divorces despite him saying not to. something must have changed behind scenes...whether it was cumulus itself, or something we are not aware of..but I think the show took a decidedly mean turn for a bit there.

I'm hoping with scott gone, the show will sound a bit younger and fresher and faster. it usually does when Todd hosts it. He tends to focus more on listeners, and issues, sort of like what Rocky Allen Did. Scott seemed more focused on bits and knuckle head in the news stories and contests. the same stuff he's been doing for the last 30 years

I don't know if Scott and Cumulus have totally "split up". He is still listed on The Oldies Channel website. If this is a divorce who gets the TOC?
