Scott Slade Wins Again

Congrats to WSB's Scott Slade, the 2006 winner of the Marconi Award for major market personality of the year.

He won the Marconi for the large market personality in 2004.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

But how does he win a "personality" award. No disrespect to Mr. Slade but he reads news. I don't see how that's "personality". Boortz, Rush, et al have "personalities". Mr. Slade winning that award is like thanking the checkout clerk at Kroger for their great prices. Really not their area to take credit for. Am I wrong?

Are you wrong??? Well let's see....a whole lot of other people including his peers voted him this award...so....yup. I think you're wrong. By the way....doesn't it take personality to use your voice to get people to listen? Walter Cronkite did it!!! Congrats Scott Slade.

When you say awarded by peers, who exactly votes? Are they other personalities, or just people in radio?

My. I didnt mean to insult you Mrs. Slade. A vote of his peers? What, other newsmen? As far as the ability to use your voice to convey something, sure, that's a skill but I don't equate that with personality. That's like hearing the trailer to a movie, nudging the Mrs and saying about the voiceover work "Wow, Agnes, what a personality this guy has". Scott Slade is a pro, does wonderful endorsements, reads well but as far as personality goes, well, there ain't that much involved when talking about how a tree fell on a house in Lilburn. Now you wanna talk personality with substance and information checkout Colin Cowherd. He's what Jim Rome wished he was. Now go back to knitting Mr. Slade that neat sweater, dearie

Sorry folks but I think Scot Slade does indeed deserve the award and title. He is a personality. Yes he is the host of the news program on WSB, but he is also the director. He is the leader of his team. Not only that but he represents the station as well. He emcees events and makes apprearances. (airshows and concerts) He gives away prizes, he adds humorous banter and interviews guests. He does much more than just "reads the news" He truly deserves the award.

Way to be a [EDIT] in an otherwise pleasant post.

Congrats to Scott. This is well deserved.

I agree with Mr. Donegan. Scott Slade does not talk about trees falling in Lilburn. He is the leader of the show and guides its direction. And he is a master at doing it. He also has a perfect voice for that job and skillfully ad libs between the other voices on the show. He's the thread that holds the show together. I think the award is well deserved.

Guys, we agree. But Mr. Slade does not do personality radio. He's a fantastic anchor. I love the job he does. There is no debate how skilled he is. But to cite him as a personality isn't correct. Plus, I'm playing devil's advocate. Had to stir it up a bit. Isnt that what this board is for?

Folks, after looking at the winners of the Marconi Awards on AllAccess.com I apologize for my questioning of Scott Slade as a personality. Once I saw that Bob and Tom won a Marconi award as well I realized my error. Because Bob and Tom invented "personality" radio. And their peers recognize that. They voted for them.

Wow, I get censored for one word, but people can start angry abusive flame wars... You go, moderator! Get down with your bad self!

I hope you are kidding when you say he isn't a "personality" because he does the news???
