Scotto Back

Surprised there hasn't been any discussion of this, from the Boston Herald:

Scotto gets new gig; gives Howie some advice
Posted by Jessica Heslam at 10:46 am

Former WRKO morning-drive man Scott Allen Miller begins a new job Monday at WROW-AM in Albany, N.Y. as the station’s program director and morning-drive host of “The Scotto Show.”

Miller plans to split his time between Albany and the South Shore, where his wife and children live. Before he came to Boston, Miller worked at WGY Albany. “I’m excited. I’m going to have such an opportunity to not only do what I normaly do on the air but also direct the future of a great talk station,” Miller told me. Miller left WRKO earlier this year and was replaced by Tom Finneran.

Can Miller make WROW a contender that will throw blow-for-blow with the 50kW torch or will it be no more than a stone in WGY's rather large shoe? Anybody who worked with John & Ken should have a good idea on how to make life miserable for the market leader.

Rumor has it Vandenberg is looking to buy a station in the capital district. That appeard in a story in the TU. But apparently Scotto is a qualified republican cheerleader. From what I have heard so far, he seems to fit the mold. But he does seem to elevate the discussion above the level of Vandenberg.

At least he is not yet into the obsessive name-dropping and name calling that Vandenberg specialized in.

It really doesn't do much to raise the level of talk radio in the Capital District. Rush, Hannity, Savage, Vandenberg, O'Rielly, Gibson et all, just the same barrage of juvenile name calling and distortion of facts and a re-hash of Republican talking points.

Only bright spot in Albany talk radio is Al Roney on WGY.

RONEY IS GOOD FOR WHAT HE DOES & IS!
HE IS NO ANDREW WILKOW!
ANDREW WAS NO SCOTT ALLEN MILLER!
SCOTT ALLEN MILLER WAS NO SUZIE GACH!
SUZIE GACH WAS NO ED O'BRIEN!
NOR WAS SHE A JOE PAGLIARULO!
NONE OF THESE HELD A CANDLE TO
JUNIOR GACH & SCARBELLY/JAFFO!

WROW WILL NEVER HOLD A CANDLE TO WGY
BUT BOTH SERVE THEIR MARKETS WELL!

IF YOU WANT PURE UNAULDTATED HUMOUROUS
RADIO THAT THINKS OF ITSELF AS THE NEW VOICE/
CHOICE & THE VOICE OF THE NEW NARROW MAJORITY;

1520 WWKB/WKBW IS AVAILABLE & ALWAYS LOOKING
FOR ANOTHER DESPERATE LISTENER FOR ITS WASTE OF
A BLOWTORCH OF A SIGNAL; THAT IT OWNS & OPERATES!

We miss Scotto here in Boston. Best of luck to him in Albany.

Scotto did not last that long in Albany. How were his ratings? On his website he is spinning this like it was his choice, would be interesting to hear the real story.

"Word is getting around, so I might as well tell you myself that I am leaving WROW and leaving the Capital Region sometime this summer."

And what happenned to the "big convoy" that was to "shut down" New York State! I guess it's hard to get that off the ground when there's virtually NOBODY listening. I think 12 vehicles showed up. As is often the case at these things, there ends up being more people on stage than in the audience (kinda like those talk show host panels at the talkradio confabs).

I hate gimmicky stunt nonsense like that. All it ever accomplishes is making the hosts feel important. Mark Williams is all about that kind of self-serving BS. "Hey, we're gonna change the world!"

Contrary to what most hosts would have you believe, talk radio isn't changing anything.

Actually, I saw on TV (including CNN) and on the front page of the TU, more than 300 trucks gridlocked the city for two hours, with police escort. Scotto and Williams were up front, with Williams introducing both the Governor and the Senate President. I am curious, where you there? Did TV's 6,, 9, 10, 13, 23, WGY, WPYX,WAMC, the Times Union, CNN and the rest hallucinate?

That was indeed a master promotion. Still, as far as his air work is concerned, I don't think 'ROW ever allowed Scotto to play to his strengths. I never had the sense he was "in the zone."

Or maybe it's just me... ;D

Scotto was not just the morning show host, he also was the Program Director. What changes did he make, and does anyone know how his ratings were in the morning?

WROW wasn't "changed" by Scotto, it was blown up by Paul V who took the format, talent and all over to 1300. Scotto has been working on building a station from scratch with some pretty meager resources.

Ratings are due out in a few hours. Gee whiz, Scotto and Williams really and truly suck on 590, but anything is better than that tewpid Jackie Donovan and her lame sidekick.

Inside scoop: Scotto overheard saying he wanted to re-imagine Paul v's "Two Bitchin' Babes" (Betsy & Jamie) who had a noontime show!

from the Reporter: Big Ray looking to take over as WROW PD. Other candidates include Jackie Donovan, Steve Van Zandt and a guy named "Jack"
