scramble for translators

Now that Reach FM is done and Calvary Chapel is going to sell the stations, their translators in Miami-Fort Lauderdale are on the block. I'm betting these will go for a nice sum of money. They are all in the commercial band.

W241AX 96.1 Boca Raton, Florida FCC
W233AP 94.5 Oakland Park, Florida FCC
W280DU 103.9 West Palm Beach, Florida FCC
W237BD 95.3 Pompano Beach, Florida FCC

Who do you think might snatch these up? Clear Channel is in debt too deep. Thank maybe WAXY might end up having an FM again? Maybe WQAM? What other AM's in the market would be good candidates?

If there were actually Dade County signals, a Spanish AM talk station might buy one, but given they are Broward and Palm Beach signals, I don't think they would.

(I'm not sure about the other ones, but 94.5 in Oakland Park had a pretty damn good signal in and around Broward County.)

Complete list of stations on the WREH Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WREH

Their auto-obituary, to which I linked on the "Radio in Florida" board, said that they will be trying to sell to like-minded entities, the opposite of what Harry Camping did with his network

As for the ReachFM translators, I do not know who owns W288DD, ReachFM or the master station whom they translate, but 105½ covers northern Dade county well.

WOCN will be installing their own translator on 101.9 in downtown Miami that will come close to matching the covered population of their AM signal.

Of course, Mouse Mouth and West Palm are not in the Miami-Ft Lauderdale radio market and would not be of much interest to a station in that metro; they would be of interest to a WPB market operator.

iHeart has bought several translators since the beginning of the year, and would be very much able to buy any of those if they wanted them and had anything to put on them that they wanted to reinforce.

W241AX 96.1 Boca Raton, Florida (250 watts/137 ft) purchased/acquired by Palm Beach Radio Group LLC who runs Haitian and Creole programming as Sakpase FM on the old WPBR 1340 AM and now heard on the FM translator.

They're also heard on W248CK 97.5 FM Twentymile Bend, FL (99 watts) out on the northwestern tip of Wellington along Southern Blvd.

as for W233AP 94.5 Oakland Park, still shows as a Reach station translating WMGE 103.5. I can't find anything regarding a sale or sale pending.

I would like to see some LPFMs get translators, but translators are only affordable when they are in the reserved band.

Now all that is left of the Reach FM translators not acquired by another entity in South Florida and the Treasure Coast left for sale is --

W219DP 91.7 West Deerfield Beach, Florida 250 watts D Class is on the air. Listed as carrying I Heart Programming

And further north, out of "South Florida . . . ."

W252BC 98.3 Port St. Lucie, Florida 19 watts Class D is off the air

W236AO 95.1 Port St. Lucie, Florida 13 watts Class D on the air, still listed carrying Reach

as for W220DQ 91.9 Belle Glade, Florida 13 watts Class D, no records at Radio Locator or FCC database. Off Streema webpage: “No longer licensed to broadcast, W220DQ was a translator radio station in Belle Glade, Florida, United States."

What will I Heart will do with their two full power HD's whose subchannels were carrying the Reach FM programming. What's I Heart using them for now?

WMGE-HD2 94.9 Miami - Fort Lauderdale

WKGR-HD2 98.7 Wellington (West Palm Beach)
