Scripps Acquires KASW

tvspy.com is reporting that Scripps has acquired KASW. So, how long until we see ABC15 News at 9pm on CW and an extension of ABC15 Morning News on the CW from 7am to 9 or 10 am?

Don't think it'll be long, personally. The two stations go together really well and it's an opportunity to get into the ring with 10 and 3. How it fares will be anyone's guess. (Assuming it launches in 2019, a KNXV-produced local newscast would be KASW's first in 22 years, excluding NewsMix.)

Just out of curiosity, you're not the first one to say "they fit together". Why do you feel they fit together so well? I have no personal opinion on this either way -- just curious as to your rationale.

Maybe this is a way to get Kaley O'Kelley back in the long am competition. She did well on 3, but seems somewhat lost on 15 these days. If she could also host a "GMAZ"-type extension of ABC15 Mornings, then ABC15's ratings and profile might increase. I'd also love to see Fay get a more prominent role in the evenings on 15.

I wonder if this deal will derail the plans KASW filed on March 1 to flash-cut to ATSC 3.0 and run its 1.0 simulcast on KSAZ's bandwidth? Funny thing because continuing to run KASW as an ATSC 1.0 station would give them the opportunity to swap HSN for Court TV.
