SCRIPPS, COX, RAYCOM CREATING WEB/NEWS CLIPS SHOW "RIGHT THIS MINUTE"

In the Bay Area, this piece of garbage airs on KTVU (FOX 2) and their sister station KICU TV36 (Ind).

I've seen it and it is annoying. Four people sit around there laptops showing videos and gabbing about what they saw. Boring.

Raycom airs this, thankfully, on their Live 5+ sub channel which few people watch at 3pm and midnight. It is a dumb show. It's like "America Now." Raycom was the one that started the show, and all it is is a bunch of taped lifestyle reports from their network of stations and Leeza Gibbons and Bill Rancic talking.

Judging this and the return of the not-asked-for-by-anybody-at-all Dish Nation (where morning zoo DJ's blather about celebrity gossip) next fall, syndication really needs to step up its game. My market finally ditched Meredith's Better this year (the most dreadful of the station group-created shows around) and of course Media General was glad to flee RTV despite national clearance of Daytime; station groups really have no business creating original programming for their stations if, like in Charleston it's shunted off to their .2 channel, they're embarrassed about.

I think the concept is good, it would just take some big names like Drew Carrey + Barbara Walters
+ Whoopie Goldberg + Jerry Springer to SELL it.

Raycom is to "Right This Minute" as Sinclair is to "News Central," apparently (though I don't know if Raycom's version has a heavy political leaning like Sinclair's)...
