Scripps soon moving Katz TV subchannels to ION stations

Also Jon Marks will be named as CRO in a post Ion/Scripps deal.

So far, there's been scant news of what would replace Ion Plus, Qubo, and the shopping channels in the various markets.

Only today, Xfinity has put out a list of changes to the ION stations in Boston, Providence, Indianapolis and Raleigh.

Less than a month to go and no news for New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco or many other major markets.

From what I understand, the changes at the Ion TV stations will all happen at the same time. I don't think we will find out anymore until about a week, or two, before they go off the air.

Those 4 markets had IonPlus on a separate station from the Ion station. The other Ion O&O stations will be adding the Katz Networks once the contracts end if they are on a non-Scripps owned station. So not every Ion O&O station will get Laff, CourtTV, Mystery, Bounce and Grit at the same time

So basically after February 28, 2021 WLWC 28.1 and Ion Plus Boston 58.1 is off the air or have alternative programming to replace those channels.

See the post above

In the select markets listed below, ION Plus will be replaced with Court TV or Bounce:
  • Boston, Massachusetts (WPXG/WDPX): ION Plus will be replaced by Court TV.
  • Indianapolis, Indiana (WCLJ): ION Plus will be replaced by Bounce.
  • Providence, Rhode Island (WLWC): ION Plus will be replaced by Court TV.
  • Raleigh, North Carolina (WFPX): ION Plus will be replaced by Court TV

Here in the Hartford Market COX Cable does not carry ION Plus or Qubo from our local ION station WHPX/26. If WHPX picks up one (or more) of the Katz-owned network from another channel in the market we will lose it on cable. Laff is the only Katz-owned network I watch and if they pull it from Channel 3.3 and put it on Channel 26 I can watch OTA. I already have an antenna hooked up to the TV in the office in order to watch the new Weigel owned WHCT-LD Channel 35.1 to watch ME-TV.

Katz-owned network in the Hartford/New Haven Market currently

3.2 Court TV Mystery Network
3.3 Laff

8.2 Bounce TV

20.2 Court TV

59.2 Grit

Side note: Hopefully if some of the Katz Networks get moved from their current home in the market to Channel 26 we can get some of the networks currently not available in the market.

Pretty much Charter Spectrum in Kazoo didn't air ION+ or Qubo subchannels. I think WZPX will be getting GetTV as Nexstar got rid of it for Dabl a couple of weeks ago. I don't know when the Katz & Nexstar deal ends as that is what the Nexstar sub-channels owned the Katz TV channels way before Scripps bought WXMI Fox17 in the Tribune merger only Katz channel they didn't have was Court TV as Tribune signed on for Court TV before Scripps bought Fox17.

I got to believe that at some point that Nexstar is going to take Antenna TV and Scripps puts one of the Katz Networks on Fox17 .2 Court TV Mystery since they air Court TV should get the sister TV station. Rumors are that Nexstar may be planning a new sister network for Antenna TV that would air '80s shows I haven't found any articles on it only heard it on a different message board.

Nexstar already has Antenna TV on the former Local TV stations like WDAF and has Court TV to also on 4.3 to but no providers other then Google Fiber,Mediacom KC area get 4.3 and 4.4 yet.

If part of this will involve taking the Katz networks down from other channels this could bring about changes at other stations. In Memphis Bounce and Grit are on WMC NBC 5, Court TV Mystery is on WHBQ Fox 13, and Laff is on WATN ABC 24.
Nothing as neither are owned by Scripps or Ion

Board member Rich Boehne is retiring from Scripps.

But unless something has changed Scripps/ION owns WPXX 50 in Memphis and they carry the full lineup of ION subchannels. And the stations I mentioned could move there because of it.
Once the current contracts are up with those owners...so it could be in a month, a year or multiple years before it moves

Oops, why did I think Katz owned Get TV it is Sony that owns Get TV. 17.4 has Court TV Mystery even know WXSP has it on there .3 I wonder if that means the contract is about to run out on March 1?

Many ION markets will still have QVC and/or HSN after the moves are made. Disappointing but not surprising.

I just don't understand why the other station groups won't immediately use the opportunity to get other programming on their subchannels, instead of forcing Scripps-Howard to keep to their current contracts. What's the point of having several channels showing Laff, Grit or Court TV in many markets? It's basically free promotion for their competitors after the end of this month.
