There had been talks that CBS wanted to flip KSCF to a CHR/Top 40 similar to KAMP in LA. Will it happen now that KSCF has improved numbers in the PPM? Or will CBS see KHTS #1 spot in the PPM and go for a 2nd CHR in the SD?

XTRA is still at the bottom of Rock stations in SD. Now, being beat out by AAA KPRI. What will XTRA do to save themselves? Or will a flip come along?

Let's talk SD PPM.

Yes my jaw dropped after I realized what station XPRS-FM was!! Nice to see KPRi in there as well... Best numbers ever (yes I know PPM is quite different from diary) Nice to see a AAA in California with numbers like that (not that LA has a AAA station ;) )

I wasn't surprised XPRS was going to hit the top of the PPMs. KRTH had a 0.6 rating in the diary which is very impressive because their signal is pretty much inaudible past Escondido.

I think you will find KRTH has a 0.9 share, not a 0.9 rating.

Talk about return for investment, from a small start up like BCA!
Walrus has what, 2 voices on the entire station?

They ought to be able to do some nice things now, it should be interesting to see how that progresses.
And look at 92.5? They've come a long way from "The Power Station" days, huh?

Re: SD PPM RESULTS FOR JUNE 2009 RELEASED 5/28/09-6/24/09

For the publicly released 6+ overall PPM ratings data for June 2009 (covering Thu. 5/28/09-Wed. 6/24/09), see the radio-info.com San Diego PPM Ratings Grid.

Some additions/corrections to the grid:

Station Est % Share Cume Format Owner

KFMB-FM 4.1 (not 3.4) 554,100 (not 243,400) Adult Hits (not Classic Hits) Midwest TV
KYXY-FM Stream 0.1 15,200 Adult Contemporary CBS Radio

Note: Univision Radio stations did not PPM encode their signals in San Diego & Los Angeles for this survey period, which is why KRQB-FM, KLNV-FM, KLQV-FM & KSCA-FM (L.A.) are at the bottom of the grid with 0.0 shares. This severely skews the share number data in these reports, accounting for some of the huge jumps in share numbers for stations at the top of the list (besides what's become the theoretical normal "PPM bump" that some formats receive when converting from Diary to PPM measurement). It would make this initial PPM currency report along with the pre-currency months of April & May 2009 essentially inaccurate; at the very least, they have missing data.

The next survey period will be for July 2009 (covering Thu. 6/25/09-Wed. 7/22/09) with the publicly released 6+ overall PPM ratings data available on Thu. 8/13/09.

KLVE and KSCA and KRCD/V as well as KTNQ were and are encoded.

which is why KRQB-FM, KLNV-FM, KLQV-FM & KSCA-FM (L.A.) are at the bottom of the grid with 0.0 shares.

KRQB is not a Univision station, it is an LBI station.

The mistake is looking at share, which does not have a 100 point base. Rating, Cume and AQH persons are all correct within the non-accredited framework of the PPM.

After posting this I checked the L.A. Grid out of curiosity & saw the Universal stations listed - I stand corrected (you beat me to it!).

KRQB is not a Univision station, it is an LBI station.
This is listed in error on the radio-info.com S.D. Ratings Grid - I will send a correction to the "update/changes email link" on that page.

The mistake is looking at share, which does not have a 100 point base. Rating, Cume and AQH persons are all correct within the non-accredited framework of the PPM.
I understand the notion of not looking at "share" in this situation since the base is wrong. Unfortunately, along with "Cume", they're the only figures "radio fans" like myself get to see (& thus comment on) since "Rating", "AQH persons" & other data do not appear on any publicly released Arbitron Share Ranking Reports issued to the press & websites such as this one, which is understandable given the data is proprietary to paying Arbitron subscribers.
Thanks for your help & clarifications.

GREAT to hear KPRi made 2.7!!!! I'm very pleased, very very very pleased. :D :D :D JG

While I was glad to see the Walrus do well, the issue with oldies the last 15 years or so has been selling them. I've seen other markets with highly rated oldies stations who end up flipping to another format, because oldies can be a tough sell.

I live in NoCal and stream The Walrus most of the day...Very few repeats and wide variety!

Not surprised by The Walrus at all....That was a huge hole to be filled in SD radio and The Walrus was smart enough to jump on it! Looks like they are eating in to KYXY's audience too...KYXY has been riding the AC wave uncontested and The Walrus taps in to that audience!

Music selection is crucial to this format and they do a good job with variety and song selection!

Music-wise, I think they sound better than K-Earth!

Just a question, what other LA stations come in clear in SD? I live in LA but I go down to SD all the time, but I mainly focus on listening on SD radio starting in South OC, so I don't really know what LA stations are clear over there.
