Seacrest to Afternoons on Star

It had been rumored, but Star 94 is promoting the move of Ryan Seacrest to afternoon drive on Monday (8/23).

I don't know how much of this decision was driven by dollars, but budget probably played a pretty big role.

Smart move. Put him in a more attractive time slot. Who will do middays now?

Also, is the voice heard when I go to star94.com the new station voice? I thought they were using Dave Kampel.

I'm guessing middays will be handled by Doug Miller, who has been VTing overnights. I'm also thinking middays will be at least partially voicetracked.

Star's new voice is "Joe the Voice Guy" out of Columbus. They used Kampel for about a year.

When you punch up Star94.com you get a brief flash presentation promoting "Your new favorite morning show and hit music all day." Gee, kinda of sounds like, I dunno ... "Bert Show in the morning and 10-in-a-row every hour" except 1) it's not the Bert Show and 2) Star has no cohesive positioning statement around their music. Weak?

That's been used by lots of stations over the years, e.g. "Howard Stern in the morning and New York's best rock all day." In Star 94's case, the station probably wants to emphasize that it's back to being a music station in the afternoon. Hit music is a positioning statement.

Confirmed... Doug will be doing Middays till they find someone full time. Word is they are bringing in someone outside of the market.

Really, what was the reason for getting rid of Tripp? Okay, I know money can be an issue, as Tripp has been there for years. But, he's a great guy on and off the air, and I know his numbers (well, actually, anybody's) would go back up since he'd have Cindy and Ray instead of the Morning Mess.

I've been wondering the same thing. I doubt he was making that much money.

Maybe they just felt that after 11 years, it was time to refresh the daypart with a new voice. Or perhaps they want a female in the slot.

This is an easy one ... "Follow The Money!"

Finances are driving ALL programming and promotional decisions right now! VT mid-day and overnights ... Darik at night ... keep costs to the absolute minimum. Tripp was not a multi-millionaire, but certainly had reached the pinnacle of a major-market mid-day pay scale.

Right Flash. This isn't breaking news. EVERY station & broadcast company in America is cutting costs and Star 94 is no different.

Over 10 years meant "the end" at Star for Tripp West, who most likely maxed out his earning potential. He will surely be replaced in Middays by someone making far less. It's nothing personal-it's just business in this day and time.

I hear Tripp West is looking for work out side of Atlanta, there is a group on Face Book called I a m for keeping Trip West in Atlanta. Maybe Kicks or the Bull will pick him up.

I guess former afternoon Star 94 talent Craig Hunt gets the last laugh, he's still gainfully employed doing afternoons at Lincoln-Financial's Denver country property KYGO as "Catfish Hunter".

With a stage name like Catfish, I would doubt he's laughing too much. lol
