Seacrest to CNN?

A number of published reports indicate CNN is negotiating with Ryan Seacrest to take Larry King's place on the network. What are your thoughts?

As for mine:

1) Probably a smart move due to Seacrest's popularity with the younger demographic. King's demographics are hardly relevant to agencies these days.

2) This signals the end of an era for the staid-styled host.

While I think it is in CNN's interest, I don't have a lot of positive things to say about Seacrest. He has no pipes, and a personality that is about as warm as Kleenex. Not the King is the "warmest," but he has a distinct personality.

Seacrest is "solid" but very vanilla. A "C+" for effort, but nothing special. I think he is indicative of the "new generation" of broadcasters.

I hope this is an early April Fool's joke. Any shred of credibility CNN has left (and there's not muck of it) would be long gone in my estimation.

I had thought CNN had regained whatever credibility it had left after it announced it would be banning radio talk show hosts (except for Roland Martin) from appearing as panelists on their shows.

By the way, I thought they might have been grooming CNN's other resident King - John - to replace Larry one day. Yes, he does that Sunday show, but after that, what else does he do, besides travel the country and prep for the next Sunday show?

My one thought is that I am glad I don't have Cable.

Ryan Seacrest.... the only person as 'Overexposed' on Television would be "MMM, MMMM, MMMMM...Barack Hussein Obama.
you are probably asking yourself.... Ryan Seacrest, a man without ANY known "Talent"!...how can he even get a JOB on Radio or TV?
some things are just unexplainable! so the only thing i can come up with is.....he made a pact with the Devil who promised to make him a star in return for his soul. i think the Devil is getting "Screwed", he's stuck with Ryan Seacrest! (serves em right)

Please tell me you're JOKING....RYAN SEACREST??!!

I wonder how much weight he's gained going to all those diners? :)

My prediction is CNN and CBS make a blockbuster trade where Anderson Cooper goes to the Eye and takes over Evening News while Katie Couric gets Larry King's slot. King stays on doing "The Barbara Walters Specials" type of periodic programs. Ryan Seacrest takes Coopers 360 program.

Sorry, I've got to go. Nurse Ratched is calling me...

I hope your medications kick in soon. (Kidding)...

Actually, Cooper to CBS is likely. May not happen for a year or two, but inevitable. (Actually, the seeds have already been planted with 60 minutes fills).

Couric to replace King. Hmm. More Ativan and Morphine for the patient, please. STAT.

Seacrest as a news anchor? I will need a dose of Xanex for that one, sorry.

King to replace Walters on the specials? Actually, at first, I guffawed, but Lar asking about what kind of tree you would be actually makes kind of a weird sense.

Bottom line, ALL of us may need medication for this scenerio!

That IS funny !!!

Seriously and Sadly we live in a world where looks and youth is all that matters...and experience at doing the job really doesn't.

*Last year when Denver's KWGN-TV decided to let go of "old" 57 year old anchor Ernie Bjorkman, KWGN was very serious in picking 33 year old Boyd Sommers as his replacement despite the fact that Boyd had never done TV or even radio in his entire life..BUT he is YOUNG and looks good to women so I guess that was very important to KWGN. BTW..Boyd according to his Facebook blog had turned down the offer to do movies of the "adult" variety.

*Last March Clear Channel in my hometown had fired two announcers who between them had 40 years of experience. Reason? Clear Channel said it was the economy and they had to cut back. However Clear Channel did hire a 19 year old right out of high school, full time with all the benefits.
First day on the air..."...man..the weather today is so freakin retarded..it sucks !!". Betcha Robert W. Morgan is spinning in his grave right now.

*Sports..its no longer how well one plays the game its how well the ball players manage to keep their goatees trimmed, their heads shaved and how much ink is on their arms.

*Why are such actors like Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen so popular? And to think Rogen just recently wrote an episode of The Simpsons and I believe there are plans for Rogen to do even more writing for that show. Guess we can expect Marge Simpson to say "..F*CK YOU HOMER !!" in a future episode.

Hanna Montana/Miley Cyrus? Pitbull? Jonas Brothers? Why are they famous?

.........and there is talk that Ryan Seacrest may be coming to CNN.....why would anyone be surprised if it happens?

Ditto! Entertainment sucks these days, and talent (or lack thereof) is the reason why. Anyone 40+, despite years of experience, is thrown out! No wonder ratings suffer so much! Nothing worth watching or listening to. I say that as someone working in the industry.

I could maybe see Seacrest doing a show on HLN. That network does seem to skew somewhat younger in its target audience, at least when Nancy Grace isn't on. But on CNN itself? No way.

[Disclaimer: I've had very little exposure to Seacrest as I don't watch American Idol. Heck, I'm one of those people that doesn't watch any of the reality competition shows. Yes, we exist. And we are legion. We hope.]

Seacrest fits better with MTV&other outlets that should reach out to youth and get them to gain interest in CNN...Is CNN intending to target younger viewers???

Ryan Seacrest hair is going to all fall out if he keeps up with this busy lifestyle. Seriously, when does this guy go to bed?

no, they're intending to target, those who think Ryan Seacrest is the GREATEST TALENT ON EARTH!
just WHO the hell A R E these people?

why in the world would you not give anderson Larry's spot? There are a dozen guys out there who can do Anderson 360ish stuff. Larry King is old as dirt, but he gets ratings still, right? (I'm guessing), because he ALWAYS gets THE guest at THE moment. Do you really think world leaders are going to sit down with Ryan Freakin Seacrest to discuss int'l policy?

I tend to agree, Seacrest would have trouble with important world leaders. But, why would CNN even care about that? The medium has evolved so much that the whole show would probably be refocused to entertainment, and Ryan would probably be the perfect fit. But, Ryan as a serious anchor is absurd. My concern is that the term "serious anchor" is becoming less relevant, and that, beyond the surface, is somewhat disturbing.

Why is it such a stretch to imagine Ryan Seacrest taking over for Larry King? Sure, Larry may have started as a newsman, but he is now primarily an entertainer. His show consists of interviews with fellow entertainers, actors, musicians, politicians, etc. He doesn't do hard hitting investigative journalism pieces, which is why someone like Anderson Cooper would be wasted in Larry's chair. Someone like Ryan Seacrest who can ask the tough and not-so-tough questions would be fine as a replacement.

Personally, if he wasn't a huge political liability or wouldn't imagine being a little censored, I thought that Bill Maher was being 'groomed' to take over for Larry.

I never remember King as being a hard hitting "60 Minutes" type of journo. Even at his best his "hard hitting questions." weren't up to that level. And in any case he stopped doing even that years and years ago

Even today that hard hitting type of journalism is dying fast. Now everything is very carefully scripted, especially with politicians. They simply refuse news outlets who won't do the interviews exactly as they have scripted. So there is no need to have that old school type of hard hitting reporter.

And should any news organization try to "ambush" a politician like that you can bet all future interviews with him would be killed and all that politicians associates will also shun that news organization.

Is Seacrest the greates talent on earth. No? No one ever claimed he was. But he is a nice guy who is totally inoffensive, can speak well and present himself professionally.

He is just what Dick Clark was, did Clark have any other talents besides those? Not really but he was a nice guy who could present himself well and get the job done. That's not easy to find.
