Sean Hannity and Race

Sean Hannity last week played a sound bite of Senator Robert Byrd saying the n word years ago. It wasn't right for Senator Bryd and it's not right for Mr. Hannity. That word does not belong on the radio, no matter how it's used.

Hannity continues to regularly criticize Barack Obama's minister, Dr. Jeremiah White, even though the minister last year on Hannity and Colmes said his religious teachings are not separatist.

Mr. Hannity is also using race in his arguments against Senator Hillary Clinton's candidacy (see http://www.newshounds.us/2008/01/15..._while_exploiting_racial_attacks_on_obama.php)

Sean Hannity's playing of the race card is a cheap shot. His employers and affiliates should not be tolerating Mr. Hannity's racial insensitivity.

Context is important here, playing a clip like that for a reason has some merit.

I understand context, but the word being aired is still offensive. Please also remember that people are listening to the radio with children, customers, co-workers, etc. present. I think the point against Senator Bryd could have been made without the sound bite.

Sean Hannity is exposing the hypocrisy of the Democrats. Some are full of hate. Howard Stern used the word while on FM, and nobody called him out on it. That's because Stern used it in a similar context to Hannity. When Byrd or Imus uses such language, no matter how long ago, it should be fair game for any talkshow host.

If you play the clip to point out a part of US history than that's fine. The part about the Dems I'll just leave alone because it has nothing to do with talk radio.

It is a VERY slippery slope when we ban words....offensive or not. There is anotehr word for "Jew" (of which I am one) that I find offensive. It has been used by people who hate for decades if not hundreds of years. Used in a historical reference I believe there is merit to use it. Context is everything.

I think Hannity is a fraud, fake and phoney. But I'll defend his right to use a word I find despicable. Interestingly, if the tables were turned I am not sure he would defend MY rights...but that is another story.

context is big here.

but it opens up the whole debate. when rappers say the N word its ok, but let a talk show host (who is white) say it, everyone finds it offensive.

easy way to stop this is ether its fair game, or ban the word all the wat around.

Re: Sean Hannity subject Trial at Hague for War Crimes???

Currently there is a Hutu Rwandan broadcaster imprisioned at the Hague for broadcasting calls for killing of Tutsies.

After WWII, Julius Stricker, a German journalist, publisher of the Newspaper "Der Stormer" was hung for war crimes. He was not in the German government or military and was not a Nazi party member--he just published a newspaper.

Therefore, should Hannity be arrested, brought to the Hague, and tried for "inciting an aggressive war"--a war crime?

Yes please more talk of "war crimes" that never took place and charges that will never be brought. If I hear another host/caller on Air America talk about how after a Democrat is elected "Bush and Cheney will be tried for war crimes... blah blah blah." NEVER HAPPENING.

under that theory then alot of "gangster" rappers would need to be arrested and tried for the same.
