Sean Hannity - Illegal campaign contribution to Republicans

Sean Hannity is using public airwaves 3 hours a day, 5 days a
week as a free campaign contribution to the Republican party (Violation of FCC equal time
rule) Hannity was asked in Sept 18, 2006 Radio Ink "what are your plans for the future of your show," and replied "Stop Hillary from being elected."

The FCC equal time rule is no longer in effect. I'm sure the liberals wish it would be reinstated.

The terms are synonymous. If equal time were truly still a rule, the 30-minute editorials disguised as newscasts on ABC, NBC, CBS & CNN would have to be compensated for 30-time blocks for those with a conservative point of view.

Don't confuse Equal Time with the Fairness Doctrine.

No they are not. The equal time rule applies to giving time to bona fide candidates for political office. It remains in effect.

Doesn't equal time apply only to the candidate? Since Hannity isn't running for anything, it wouldn't apply to him.

It doesn't have to be the candidate campaigning, either. Years ago, when Fred Grandy (gopher) ran for congress in northwest Iowa, Love Boat was still running (the final season's repeats) on Saturday night on ABC. His opponent in the primary asked the ABC affiliate in Sioux City for equal time or take Love Boat off. He finally agreed to a half-hour interview on the station, but he could have forced them to take off the remaining episodes of Love Boat until the primary election. (Gopher won, and won the general election.)

The candidate has to ask for the equal time, too, it's not just automatically given to him.

Yes, it applies to the candidate and any on-air appearance by candidates - including Love Boat re-runs, talk show hosting or old movies. When Reagan ran for president, his old movies were not shown on broadcast TV (the rule does not apply to cable channels); when he ran for governor of California, the movies were just taken off on stations which covered any part of California. KIRO, Seattle talk show host Dave Ross ran for congress two years ago and took a leave of absence from his show but continued his commentaries for CBS and AP Radio (which were not aired on stations with signals heard in his district).

The rule does not apply to political commentary from Hannity or anyone else.

GM promoting a contest on his show..the 5 weeks before election is a contribution too...also half the cars being given away are not American made..so much for thew great "american" car give away
