SEARK Radio Notes

A couple of items of interest for those in mid-Southeastern AR.

102.5 Gould AR (Arkansas County Broadcasters) which is a 24/7 relay of KWAK-FM 105.5 ("Oldies 105.5") Stuttgart AR changed callsigns from KAFN to KOTN. No change in format but heard the new calls at the top of the hour on Friday morning while in the pickup.

KQEW 102.3 Fordyce AR has dumped its long-time country music format for conservative talk. KQEW has been running Imus In The Morning for several months, but the country music disappeared this week for sundry conservative talkers. I did run across The Dave Ramsey Show on Thursday afternoon. Ironicly, KQEW is still running the sweepers with the old format especially at the top of the hour since the station has no top of hour newscast as of now (at least on weekend overnights). KQEW's website ( http://www.kbjtkq.com/ ) is out of date not reflecting the changes in format.

Are they simulcasting their AM?

No. KQEW 102.3 and KBJT 1590 are not running parallel programing. KQEW was heard during the noon hour running America's Radio News Network http://www.americasradionewsnetwork.com/while KBJT is serving up the conspiracies of Alex Jones. ARNN is operated by TRN Syndication. I should be home all day tomorrow and will have a chance to check more of the programming between the two stations.

Now that they are talk KQEW really should shut off the stereo pilot. It would help that signal out greatly and there is no benefit to having the stereo indicator lit for talk programming.
