Seattle FM Radio

Earlier I posted about the future of Seattle AM radio and now a couple of humble thoughts about FM radio. Apologize that much of this is taken from comments on the LA Boards over the last couple of months, but it applies here. FM radio future is bright for the following reasons:

1. PPM favors FM. AM stations will niche to stay alive and serve smaller audiences with great success. FM stations will become powerhouses and battle each other. FM will drive the rate for the market.

2. FM stations will become a two-tier proposition. The first tier will be FM stations that are more like the full-service stations of old. Established morning shows, news, big promotions and wide appeal music genres. The second Tier will be automated flankers that generate cash and margin. We already see this transformation.

Seattle will have two or three clear powerhouse 25-54 FM stations when the PPM dust settles. In LA it is KIIS, KLVE, KOST and KROQ, in NY it is Z-100, WLTW and WCBS, in Dallas it is KLNO, KHKS, KPLX and in Philly it is WBEB and WDAS. Varied formats with a common factor of heritage morning shows and wide appeal. The remaining stations in the clusters have trimmed staffs and serve as niche flankers. What will the top three or four 25-54 powerhouses be in Seattle? That is anyone's guess, but I can tell you the parameter of FM radio looks very bright in the coming years, in my humble view. Investment into the top powerhouses will increase, fueled by automating the flankers and using them to bring in rate on buys.

In Seattle, it's KMPS, KIRO, KUBE, and KISW. KNDD COULD be better...but alas. I worry about them.....

Nope. PPm winners are KZOK, THE WOLF, KBKS, WARM and KISW 8)

Yeah, but Kiss is already going to be a flanker to KUBE. So please explain! That's just my first question....

Mainstream CHR does much better in the PPM :D
Rythmic CHR does much worse in the PPM
KUBE and KBKS are virtually tied in the last few months trend extraps in the diary
Therefore cowboy, KBKS beats KUBE when the PPM arrives 8)

Any more questions

Just one question... Are you buying the same stuff Bong has been smoking? Because your posts are starting to become as delusional as his are...there...uh..cow-poker.

KMPS regularly beats the Wolf and I believe will in PPM. Therefore my next prediction is like Mama, you TIFM will disappear into the Internet abyss when the Wolf gets it's doggie head handed to itself.

As far as your prediction that KBKS will beat KUBE...HELLO! They're owned by the same company now! Do you REALLY believe that Clear Channel would do that trade and allow it to hurt the market cash cow? Really??

Some people on this board believe your real identity to be that of the Wolf morning guy. I frankly don't buy it because someone working in mornings in a market the size of Seattle wouldn't be that naive.
