Seattle-Tacoma Arbitron Ratings: May 2011

With the May 2011 ratings now posted here on Radio-Info.com, a few observations on these 6+ numbers:

KJR FM continues its ratings decline. They have dropped from number one in the rankings in March to a tie for fifth in the new May ratings report. They are also off over 100,000 cume listeners in that short period of time. KISW seems to have picked up a lot of their listeners. KISW ranked second in the new survey, just a sliver behind number one ranked KRWM. Though KISW's overall cume didn't move much, the quarter hour ranking is a 1.1 share ahead of KJR.

KPLZ had a nice book. They climbed several spots to tie for number five in AQH. Newstalk continues to show its popularity with KOMO and KIRO both in the top four. Cumewise, more than one million listeners combined listen to both stations for at least 15 minutes weekly.

KMCQ is not a one time wonder. They actually increased their quarter hour rating .8 of a share, and have a cume audience exceeding 400,000 on a weekly basis.

Conservative talk is taking a beating as KTTH continues its steady decline, dropping another .4 of a share to a new low.
Overall cume is also off from the past two months.

The top 10 Average Quarter Hour: KRWM, KISW, KOMO, KIRO, KPLZ, KJR, KKWF, KZOK, KUOW, KUBE

Top 10 Cume Audience: KRWM, KQMV, KJR, KPLZ, KUBE, KBKS, KJAQ, KZOK, KISW, KNDD

Stations gaining in AQH this survey: KPLZ, KKWF, KZOK, KBKS, KIRO AM, KNDD, KMCQ, KJR AM, KIXI

I notice in AM Sports it looks like KIRO-AM is starting to separate itself from KJR-AM. What do the rating gurus think? As a sports radio listener I wonder if KIRO didn't do a local AM drive sports show they wouldn't leave KJR in their dust.

In my own case I listen to Mitch's show in the AM only because KIRO is doing a nationally syndicated show, the rest of the day I'm on KIRO.

It seems to me KJR is coasting on its past laurels.

What say the ratings experts?
