Second CHR station

Now that KROI has dumped the format, do we think another station tries to fill the second CHR slot or does KRBE get full reign over that format?

I don’t Listen to Mix 96.5, but isn’t that station a CHR format??
It's pretty close to being a CHR without actually being one...which made it an additional headache for RadioNow.

I don't see any of the best signals dumping what they have for CHR at this time. The format is in a slump due to the quality of current music industry output. Maybe KQBT, but I strongly doubt it.

I think it's more than just the quality. A CNBC article last year did point out that more listeners are switching to OTT content due to the pandemic. Staying at home with a limitless library of music (combined with less new albums) has drastically changed the way we listen to music. People on Spotify are listening to older albums/songs instead of current hits for some odd reason.

On top of that, MusicWatch claims that streaming has outperformed radio when it comes to just music listening. Given CHR's demographics, it's probably safe to say that those listeners have not hesitated to explore new listening avenues.

Unless something drastic happens, CHR/Pop FM stations are likely going to be the first casualties of OTT streaming.

Keep in mind that the primary sales target of CHR's is actually 25-44 women, secondary 18-34 women. The most likely occurrence with that group is that they ask Alexa for a particular mix using a descriptor or that they stream an actual radio station via a smart device.

KQBT is a top 10 biller, and gives iHeart a significant complement to its cluster in a format that attracts an audience that more and more advertisers are wishing to appeal to today.

Top it off Breakfast Club is doing well here in H town. Everyone I know that listens to hip hop knows who Charlamgne Tha God and his crew is.

I highly doubt anyone will make another CHR in 2021, cause it’s looking like KRBE is hard to top. With RN gone they’re likely going to be near Sunny 99.1 or 94.5 The Buzz in the ratings. Any new CHR station likely will be a miracle pop up. Much like how 93.7 The Beat came out after several years since Party 93.3/104.9 left.

If any new CHR pops up in Houston they gotta bring back KKMS again, cause that show was better than what Roula and Ryan are doing.
