A reported shooting has taken place at the Fox 5 WTTG offices and its under investigation

A security guard shot a man who broke through two doors and entered the lobby of WTTG, the local Fox station in Washington, D.C., Monday afternoon.

The suspect, whose name was not released immediately, said he wanted Fox 5 to make contact with President Donald Trump, sources told News4. D.C. Police Commander Melvin Gresham said at a press conference that he could not confirm that possible motive.

D.C. police said the man was trying to get into the building on Wisconsin Avenue NW at Harrison Street. He kicked out the glass of two doors and was able to enter the building.

A female security guard tried to subdue the man with pepper spray but the man continued to act aggressively. The guard then shot him once inside the lobby of the studio, authorities said.

The suspect was not armed, Gresham said. No one else was injured.

The man was taken to George Washington University Hospital with a wound to the upper body. He was conscious when taken to the hospital and is in stable

Note this is not the first time that a Fox O&O has been attacked by questionable people. A few months ago we had KDFW Fox 4 Dallas get attacked at their offices by somebody with mental issues.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A suspected intruder was shot while trying to gain entry to a news station in Washington D.C. Monday afternoon, according to the station.

Fox 5 DC reports that the suspect was trying to get into their office in Friendship Heights when the incident took place.

Source familiar with the matter told ABC News that the suspect who was shot was known to law enforcement authorities and is believed to have a history of mental illness. D.C. police are investigating the incident and exactly what led the officer to discharge his weapon.

Washington D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a 3:15 p.m. call and an ambulance was on the scene at 3:20 p.m.

I have friends who have worked at stations where nutjobs tried to break into the studio.
It's a scary situation. Broadcast facilities serve as magnets to such people.

Sobering to think that budgets for building security have likely been slashed
just like everything else.

But this is the second time that security or Police had to respond to incidents where a TV Station was attack but in the past two cases they happened to be Fox O&O's in different parts of the country One in Dallas and now this in Washington D.C. and in both cases the mental stability of the attackers have come into question on why they targeted a station has been questionable at best.

Update a Suspect has been Identified in the Fox 5 Shooting

WASHINGTON - FOX 5 has learned that the suspect wounded by an armed security guard after he broke through a locked entrance of the building has a history of contacting staff members at FOX 5.

Police say 38-year-old George Odemns forcibly entered the front lobby of the building on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest D.C. Monday afternoon.

Surveillance video showed the suspect kicking through the glass doors to get into the lobby. The unarmed man was confronted by two armed security guards – one of which ended up shooting him once in the chest.

Odemns was known to police and some employees of FOX 5 after he previously sent bizarre and rambling emails to FOX 5 staff members. He has also sued FOX 5, Fox News, the White House, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. police and several others.

Court records show Odemns was charged with murder in 2002, but the case was dismissed.

Odemns was seen being placed into an ambulance in a stretcher where he was transported to the hospital. He is in critical, but stable condition, according to police.
