You go and criticize the KMCQ automation and they get back at you by going off the air.

No, I really don't think that's the reason either. Maybe they're out of diesel for the generator - in any event, there's nothing coming out of the radio at 104.5 but static.

What about the issue of getting on to Entercom's tower, that sounds like the REAL story. I sure wouldn't put a signal on MY tower unless (a) I planned to own/control it, or (b) I knew it was going to an independent and could guarantee it wasn't going to compete with me (ie: Spanish). Engineers in the group, any thoughts on any technical reasons why it would go there or are we down to pure business economics at this point?

I heard their computer hiccuping the other day and then they went dead. They are still running their transmitter because my stereo light is lit up. I believe putting out their signal with no programming is a violation of FCC regulations. They should shut off the transmitter until they get their progamming act together.

The FCC isn't going to fine anyone for not having programming on due to technical problems. For that matter, one could put a tone on the air and be fine.

Frankly I wish the KMCQ folks would just play a tone on the air. At least that way some on this board wouldn't be critical of their programming (or lack thereof) so frequently.

As a bonus, maybe that would also motivate whomever started the earlier thread to find the radio there at Taco Bell, or whatever fast food place they were listening to KMCQ at.

As a regular critic of KMCQ, it may surprise some of you that I'll defend the station this round. I'll always be a bit partial to KMIH; I think they should have never been forced to relinquish 104.5. Having said that however, even KMIH was on and off the air at least three times yesterday, along with Movin, KWJZ and others up on Tiger. Assuming that the wind was most likely the culprit up on Radio Hill, in this case KMCQ gets a pass in my book.

I've also been listening from time to time; they have improved their programming quite a bit over a few months' back.
Now if they would get a decent processor they might actually begin to do something w/the station to make it something to listen to!

I tuned over to 104.5 a few minutes ago and they are back on the air, however the music has been fading in and out every so often.

Update at 9:43 AM on October 15th, 2009: they were off the air for a minute but now they're back on, it sounds almost like listening to satellite radio with the signal going in and out.

Right now i've been flipping between 104.5 and the am dial and it sounds like whatever issues they had have been fixed; they were airing some talk show(I forgot the name), they were playing Simply Irresistable by Robert Palmer, right now as I type they're playing a Richard Marx song(I forget the name though). Sounds like at least for now they've gone back to 80's music.
