Seeing as there is no TV Board: FOX 5...

I am sorry...but why did Fox 5 feel the need to use a crawl at the bottom of the screen during 24 tonight to tease a story?

I understand if it is Breaking News...but when it says "coming up on fox 5 news", wouldn't that be covered in the promos they air every commercial break?

I like the station, but man, that crawl made 0 sense to me.<P ID="signature">______________

Promotion whether its a crawl or even a live/recorded promo is the best way to get your viewers to stay tuned. Watch the other stations, 3,8,13,21, 25 & 33. Soon they'll all be following the lead of Fox 5 and crawling the news in programming before they can actually go live.

Speaking of TV News...
How about Gold 33 and WB-21. They're a Sinclair company and cut the cost by airing on both channels and cross promoting on each of their stations. They use the same anchors and reporters. When have you ever heard of local broadcast stations cross promoting and anchoring on each of their stations? I know Channel 8 cross promotes its cable sister station Las Vegas 1. The only difference is, the anchors on 8 only work for 8 and anchors on 25 only anchor on 25. Do you think because Sinclairs people are on two stations, they get paid better?

KHNL and KFVE in Honolulu used to do that. Perhaps they still do. Even more stupid was WTZH-24 (CBS) and WGBC-30 (NBC) in Meridian simulcasting the same news program at the same time on both stations. Talk about a waste! I think that recently ended.

I think when the station went into 24 with the last commercial being a promo, and then came out of 24 with a promo...it is a little ridiculous. It was about a day-old accident, and they didnt provide any details. All it did was make me want to throw my television off a large overpass.

Now, in the case of this morning, the hold up at Harrahs, THAT would have been relevant. But a day-old crash, and not offering up any details...and leaving a crawl up at the slowest speed imaginable just pisses viewers off.

As for Gold and WB cross promoting...that happens quite often. WBZ and WSBK in Boston (CBS O&O...one is CBS, the other UPN) has a morning newscast on WBZ, then another show on WSBK when 'BZ is on the national program. They also used to have a 10pm newscast where at the end they would tell viewers to tune to WBZ for CBS4 News at 11.

At the end of Patriots games, they would have the post game show on WSBK (and post graphics saying "5th Quarter is on UPN38"...

So, to clarify, when it is a duopoly, cross promotion happens quite often.

The real tragedy is that they didn't promote the simulcast on KNEWS...

In quite a few markets, you're seeing non co-owned station
providing news content for others in their market...often with
separate anchors - but using the same street reporters and
footage.

And speaking of cross promotion, based on your writings, somebody
better tell CNN/TBS/TNT/Cartoon Network that they've been doing
it all wrong with "crosspromoting"...

LOL.

Or since this is Radio-Info, that thing called Metro.
