seeking a replacement listening choice for dead AAA station

I have a question regarding a form of AAA music radio. One of my favorite AAA channels was “XM Café.” That channel is now gone. I know that many people who are familiar with AAA wouldn’t classify the “Café” as AAA, due to it’s very mellow, and sometimes, unAAA-ish sound. But, the trades still called it AAA. What I’m asking is this: Does anyone know of a streaming radio station (tirestrial or internet) that has the similar mellow sound as the “XM Café?” If so, please give me the URL here. I miss the “Café,” and am looking for a replacement listening option. Thank you.

My suggestion, try out 'Radio Paradise' or RP. Very good, very eclectic. Also, on the FM side of things check out WYEP 91.3 Pittsburgh. Love to hear good new songs from Calexico or Gomez, check em out www.wyep.org (add WXPN.org & WNCS.com) ;) Peace - JG

I agree that Radio Paradise is a GREAT site (http://www.radioparadise.com/) run by really nice people (Bill Goldsmith of KPIG fame and his lovely wife Rebecca), but I'm not sure that it would be a good replacement of The Loft. Radio Paradise is one of the very few places you can hear Porcupine Tree...

also try www.indiesf.com

one of the most out-of-the-box (read: NOT an internet juke box) music mixes that was born out of a successful fm station. That said, its not tied to the traditional "reserached to the hilt" ways that have made terrestrial radio listeners run for their iPods. A good mix that flows nicely (you're not going to hear James McMurtry next to Hot Chip).

enjoy...

[size=10pt][size=10pt]RP is really cool. Even though they should rethink their no commercial policy. Selective, laid-back lifestyle oriented advertisers with well produced spots could provide a big boost in revenues.

RP is where I first got turned on to the "Tree", too. Go to Pandora.com and you can have your own Porcupine Tree channel

Here's where I play Rock Snob and point out that the AAA station I programmed in Salt Lake City in the mid 90's played some Porcupine Tree. But I hasten to point out that they were mellower then. The Pink Floyd influence was strong. Since then they've gotten into Radiohead and Metallica.

I saw them about a year ago in Montreal. Amazing.

Hey, Zeb! I'll see your Porcupine Tree and raise you one Lothar & the Hand People and two Gentle Giants. Used to play the bleep out of them waaaaay back in the day.

Somehow Lothar and the Hand People got past me, but I did play lots of Gentle Giant in the 70s. Saw them in concert once too; extremely good.

Did you know that one of the Shulmans (I think it was Derek) had a hand in Kingdom Come's brief success? I think he was their A&R man. Kingdom Come is AKA Kingdom Clone, as their biggest hit "Get It On' is really just Zeppelin's "Kashmir" speeded up...
