seeking old news openers

I am the content editor of an online only show about the radio industry. As part of that show, I do a newscast. I am seeking old news openers -- music to signal or open a newscast. However, because we aren't allowed to place copyright material on our archive (royalties), I am seeking music that isn't copyright. I know NBC and ABC used some music they're no longer using, and is no longer in copyright. (I know this because I've heard news opener music on podcasts.) If anyone can please send me this music, or knows where we can get the music for free (we operate on a budget of $0), please email the program at:
[email protected]
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Check out pond5.com. They've got some stuff as low as $2.50 and $5.00 to license royalty free music. That's almost zero, or probably as close as you're going to find.

Just because somebody else did it doesn't mean you're necessarily in the clear! I've seen webcasters all over the place operating streaming radio stations without complying with DMCA rules or paying royalties. I'm sure there are podcasters who are either uninformed or just don't care about what's legal and what's not.

I don't know what rules would apply if you're using the old news openers as part of a "historic" or "educational" presentation, but if you were to use them as a normally occurring feature it would probably not fly.
