First we will be an over the air non-commercial and online radio station complete with an FCC license once construction is completed.
In addressing my board I said we need to think radio with our online presence. In few words, the on the air sound is the very content of the website as well. That still doesn'r say it completely but I stated the website needs to be as fresh and as interactive as the on the air sound. I said we need an online live and active website that is as much a gathering place of the community as the radio station's programming is.
I cannot find the biggest and most successful websites sending viewers to other places but rather having the content that addresses the visitor's interests and 'needs' to do just what we do on radio: attract visitors and increase time spent on the site.
I proposed blogs, station generated news, information, weather, maybe a buy-sell-trade and possibly lost and found as well as community events and such, contests, a business directory (for underwriters) and, as I said, streaming.
My thought is linking to a newspaper or another site for the TV schedule and such simply is like telling a radio listener to go somewhere else than your station.
I might be way off in my thinking. I figure some here might have some exceptional suggestions for our little non-profit that wants to be the preferred choice on the radio dial and online for local information and entertainment. Would you please share? Thank you.
