1140 signal and other tourist observations
Just returned from Vegas and was surprised by just how bad that 1140 signal is. I knew that there were a lot of tight nulls towards Henderson, but trying to get Tom Leykis (hey, if there was anything good on I wouldn't have had to listen to him... the Radio Shopping Show got old quick) around 5pm, even near the south end of the Strip was unbearable. 1140 from the High Desert news/talk trimulcast kept bleeding through, although I suppose from 7-10pm the fact that they're both running Hendrie isn't as bad.
On the subject, since the signals are so close and imaged the same, who stole KNEWS from whom? 970 in Coachella or 970 in Vegas? Hopefully they're not poaching the "How to get there and what to wear" crap in California, though.
I guess that was Penn Gillette on at 11am this morning that I heard; knew it wasn't Hendrie and it didn't sound that bad. For a lowly rated AM station, the imaging sounds better IMHO than that big-mouthed clown on KXNT, KDWN's overlapping brokered shows with liners at the bottom of the hour, KNEWS' non-existent imaging, or anything else. I kinda like that 1140.
Other observations: 1230 signal seemed unusually strong around 5am as I drove north on the 515/93, but sucked everywhere else at night. 1400 actually might make more money than I thought... although a total bore; why aren't callers actually heard on the air? Ugh. 1280's signal sounded surprisingly good in their COL of Henderson for about 1 mile, considering that IIRC their tower is further north since they're a Class D.
One other question... any other hotels that you're aware of that have broadcast studios other than Sunset Station and the Stratosphere? Thanks...
