Selling Lebron talk

Were companies able to sell extra spots, and maybe for inflated rates, based on anticipation of large audience interest and listening to talk shows about this? A friend of mine was going from station to station to hear how they were covering the event. He said he had heard that WENZ, 107.9 FM interrupted their music programming to talk about the event. However, every time he put the station on, they were running commercials.

And today's T-R-I had mentioned that three Clear Channel music stations broke format to hold a call-in show during the hour on Thursday night LeBron made his "decision."

They had to. WTAM could not carry the LeBron spectacle live due to their carriage of the Indians-Rangers game, which obviously held priority. The special was produced by WTAM, with Mike Snyder and Andre Knott... 1100 joined it in progress just after the Indians postgame wrap-up ended.

What WAS notable was that WAKS/96.5's afternoon host Kasper further broke the format on KISS-FM and hosted a live/local morning reaction call-in show, preempting Elvis Duran. Most of the other CC/Cleveland stations naturally were live-and-local in the morning as well (WMMS' Shane French is only relayed in Rochester now, so I don't consider him 'syndicated.')

I have no idea what WMVX/106.5 did with their "Premium Choice" Sean Valentine, whose show has always been pre-recorded from the previous day... ::)

Hey, Brian Fowler's been doing fill-in recently at Oak Tree..."Brian Without Joe" for a day? :D

Kasper's marathon morning shift was almost a necessity, though running a NYC-based morning show would have been even more problematic if LeBron was headed for the Big Apple...
