Semi OT:Encyclopedia Of Cleveland History

Case Western Reserve University put out several years ago an "Encyclopedia of Cleveland History", Which was a huge volume with hundreds of articles about all facets of Cleveland History..While some of the "Better Bookstores" Carried it it was out of reach pricewise for the average person. I have seen it in my Public Library and it is a fascinating read. The reason I bring this up is the encyclopedia text is now online and supposedly updated quite a bit..There are a lot of Broadcasting, Radio and TV articles inside..In case anyone might be interested.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm sure this book has been brought up here before, but a month or so ago at Borders, I picked up "Radio Daze: Cleveland's FM Air Wars" by Jim Olszewski. It's a bit high priced for a paperback, but the John Gorman / WMMS war stories of the '70s alone made it worth it, not to mention the early-70s WMMS bumper sticker scans.

My local library has a copy of that aformentioned book, dated 1987. The late Wayne Mack (of WDOK-FM and WCLV) wrote many of the radio and TV articles. Great read... I've referenced it quite a bit while discussing local radio history on this board.

Yes, a very entertaining book and--according to many--pretty accurate. Reading it reminded me not only the fantastic lineup of deejays on WMMS in the 70s and 80s, but of great jocks on WGCL, WGAR, WZZP, WLYT, and M105. The city's FM stations were loaded with great personalities, all live 24/7. I can name probably 30 people who were outstanding and who remained on the air in Cleveland for many years.

I don't think that I can name 5 people today.
