Seneca Nation is on the air.

The interesting thing is I've studied these tribal radio stations, such as KTNN in Window Rock AZ and they tend to be pretty standard operations. They play popular music, most of the time they use tribal talent, but they're not opposed to syndication (as is the case with this Sececa station). They seem to be good operators, for the most part, and don't challenge local laws, as some tribes have with tobacco sales or gambling. What I'm saying is they probably COULD do a lot of questionable things, and they don't, which is great!

"A"

My point exactly. (KTNN was the example I heard also)

All I can think of when I hear talk about Seneca Nation having their own radio station is the parody (I hope it was a parody) of BROCKET99 that Don and Mike used to play. Too funny!

This is a radio discussion board, not a political discussion board.

I'm not surprised that the rhetoric has started. Let them do what ever it is they are going to do. Sometimes one must step back from being overly passionate, and look at the forest for the trees. They have a license, and they aren't bankrupt. (Hmmm) ???
I'll stop there to keep this non-political. :)
Beauty!

R_b-O: word is they're having a little trouble getting the sat feed so they're making it work as best they can. IMHO, they should load the hard drive with a thousand hits, fire up the AudioVault or MediaTouch and let 'er rip locally. I mean really? What's the advantage to importing ABC's Classic Hits sat feed, especially when/if you have a decent automation system?

The Mohawks operate CKON in Akwesasne, the reservation that straddles the NY/Quebec border east of Massena. According to Wikipedia, the station (a 3000 watt class A @97.3) wasn't licensed by either the CRTC or the FCC, but is most likely "tolerated" because it only serves the folks on the reservation and the surrounding area. Now if some radical Mohawks wanted to increase the power to 100000 watts (or more) and target Montreal, Ottawa or Northern New York, the feds on both sides of the 45th parallel might pay them a visit.
