SEPT 11, 2001 MEMORIAL COVERAGE

Who is providing their listeners with quality coverage in Buffalo and in Rochester?

Curious what has been heard today, what we can expect to hear throughout the day and what, if anything, will be provided to listeners over the weekend, particularly all day Sunday.

Thread to discuss what the local (and national - I expect NPR to churn out some quality stuff) broadcasters of Western New York and beyond are producing to help recognize what took place 10 years ago, especially since we will be bombarded with live and pre-taped coverage all weekend long on the boob tube.

Nationally, Sirius on Howard 101 is running the entire 9/11/01 Howard Stern Show in it's entirety beginning at 6:30am.

They've played clips from that show before and it's an interesting look back to what Howard, Robin, Fred, and Gary were thinking as the unfortunate events of 9/11 were unfolding live in front of them.

WYSL ran the superb annual Quinn & Rose 9/11 retrospective, complete with a minute-by-minute reconstruction of that horrible morning - and including riveting radio conversations between Cleveland ATC Center and the terrorist suicide pilot of Flight 93. Also interviews with survivors and personal stories like Ted Olson, who lost his wife Barbara (frequent FOX News contributor) as she was a passenger on 93. He detailed her cell calls to him and his frantic attempts to contact John Ashcroft and the FBI. All were interspersed with moving musical tributes. Q&R need kudos here for some of the finest, can't-tune-out radio I've experienced in almost 45 years in this industry.

Indeed, NPR will be going non-stop on 9/11's tenth anniversary with an expanded Weekend Edition, including live coverage of the various ceremonies being held in New York City, Washington and Shanksville. Neal Conan will host a three-hour national call-in from 2 to 5pm. Then Sunday evening, NPR will air the live tribute concert from the Kennedy Center in Washington. All these programs will be airing on WBFO and, I presume, WNED-AM.

I've heard it here, originally on WRRK and after '04 on WPGB.

And every year we (my wife and I) have heard this, it brings a tears to our eyes. God bless Jim and Rose for not letting us forget the terrible events of 9/11.

until NOW i never thought of this:

They've played clips from that show before and it's an interesting look back to what Howard, Robin, Fred, and Gary were thinking as the unfortunate events of 9/11 were unfolding live in front of them.

when (now) the howard-team replayed clips (from the original date)...
what i never thought of: wow, they are RIGHT THERE (close proxy) to
what is now ground zero. not a BIG/if at all, a 'howard'fan but he and
his crew are human beings - and it must have been some thing to
know that this is LIVE and happening...

why am I soo......ten years later? because as much as (blah)! howard stern
potrays himself, he also has built up an invincible shell that nuthin! phases him.
(i have xm/sirius) but not best of package..(and its tues.morning)so, I wont
be able to hear it, but . ...interesting that guy that never shows/feels anything
Im sure had a remarkable broadcast.

Of all the choices for coverage on 9/11, Howard Stern would not have been in my top 1000.

wow - like,
when u are in school give a
"good" answer, and detailed
w/ facts and testimonies and . . . .
u get a C + and u think the teacher hates u!!!
-
sir ROxaLOT: i agree with u - i got sidetracked
from the ACTUAL topic* and got on that
howard simon(i mean stern) lol,
tangent and i didnt address the topic ,
yea now that i think about it he probably
keep saying it just happened, i recall
(original) nbc had best coverage
930/wben had some good coverage,
and tv-(football) was the best coverage
(for me) a mix of (PAUSE) and football (feel good)
