SEPT PPMs!

Its intresting to see who is still climbing and who is dropping.

WBNS-FM seems to be getting it's "Buckeye buzz" (despite the teams lackluster season)

WWCD is still climbing ... Clearly CD 101 err 102.5 is doing well with their more powerful signal...

Time for a format change at Gen X

Interesting that WVKO-FM has a higher AQH then some of the other stations in this market...(and the highest i've remembered that freq having in recent years) Guess some latinos have found PPM meters!

Also look at the drops at all 3 Nabco Stations, WRKZ is down from 6.6 in July to 4.0 in September, WTDA has lost half its share since April, and WMNI is slowly loosing listeners over time.

WSNY has been loosing listeners pretty fast as well 8.1 in may to 5.9 in Sept.

In October we'll see if the format switch for 93.3 paid off or not. Another interesting thing will be Jack's ratngs and Magic's now that they got moved to 106.3.

Although I do think Gen X has been sounding a bit better, I think it's only still around because CC hasn't figured out what to put on there to replace it. What would be the next format?

97.1 The Fan is back. Go Bucks! More like good luck Bucks!

Here's something I noticed... Magic 989 took a big hit, wonder if any of those numbers have to do with the flip, I'll be sure to check out the Oct ppm's to verify.

Mix 1079 got a nice jump, maybe due to dropping Billy Bush and they've been playing more CHR (i.e. LMFAO, Cobra Starship, Lady Gaga)

When is Power gonna finally do some changing? Their numbers are dropping like flies. Apparently "catering to the streets" wasn't such a good idea.

WNCI is below their normal range. But a station like that can't fall much further. They will be in the top 3 of every month of every year of every decade.

That will be way too soon to draw any real conclusions. Heck, we would have said that back with the first diary book, and that covered up to three months. Also, the situation's very different for Jack, which will require nearly 100% cume turnover, vs. 93.3 which can keep much/most of its old cume.

The flip didn't even take place during the Arbitron September period, which is the four weeks ending 9/14.  People are trying to read too much into the early results.  For Jack-FM in particular, as I just explained, we'll need several more months before even beginning to draw any meaningful conclusions.  They need to effect an almost complete cume turnover.  And as far as I can tell, they're doing zero promoting or advertising thus far.  Hardly anyone even knows they're here, other than disgruntled Magic listeners, few of whom are going to keep a preset to Jack.  I'll be really surprised if the numbers don't drop way down for awhile, even if Jack-FM ultimately turns out to be a big success.

I don't consider Magic's Sept number to be taking a big hit anyway.  It's more that August was unusually high, and they're now back into a more familiar ratings territory.  I assume a lot of the people posting here are looking at R-I's ratings summaries, which would show a more meaningful trend if they had at least five months instead of just three (although three is better than two...).  This is especially true with PPM where three ratings data points show you just three months of total data instead of the nine months you would get from three diary data points.

Also, as always, you can't fully judge without the demos.  Some stations may have what looks like very so-so 6+ shares, but if you had access to rankers in the key demos you could find those "floundering" stations in the top 5 where it counts.  The Jack-FM in Los Angeles isn't ranked very high 6+ but they do great in the "money demos."

So this sorta has to do with the rating period..

Who will pull the Sleigh ride out first this year? WODC or WSNY? Could Clear Channel blow up Gen X 106.7 and put The X in Christmas this year there? (then launch a new format come Jan 1st?) ... While Christmas @ 106.7 would take some ratings away from 93.3 during the Christmas period.. WODC could keep holding its ground and Clear Channel would see a nice jump on 106.7.

Just food for thought...

This morning they weren't playing Classic Rick Dees and the weekly top 40 this morning. So who knows? Ther just might be a change on the way.

As for Christmas music on 93.1: FWIW several weeks ago on their Facebook page they said they did expect to be doing Christmas music this year. That alone certainly doesn't guarantee it's going to happen, but it's at least one piece of evidence. I've always assumed they would still do Christmas since it's been so good to the station in the past, though you do have to wonder if it makes sense to interrupt the work they're doing establishing the new format that soon. OTOH, if Christmas music gives them a big cume bump, maybe the hope is that a lot of those people who drifted off after Christmas during the AC days will instead stick around this time because they like the oldies they hear.

Bottom line, I think they WILL continue to do all-Christmas.

My guess is that all-Christmas will stick around on the new format. Last year they did huge numbers, so why not do it again, even with a new format in place? I agree totally with Nu Roo's position on this.
