Sept. Ratings for All-News Stations

Established All-News stations are doing well with KYW and WTOP both #1, with WBBM #2 and KCBS #3. Some stations are down a bit for summer listening in a few cities. The only surprise is the tumble KOMO took in Seattle. Usually they're around #4 or #5. And I've discussed the poor ratings All-News stations get in Sunbelt markets, such as KNX LA and KRLD Dallas. The new All-News stations (KROI Houston, WYAY Atlanta, WNEW-FM Washington) also have a struggle, especially since the first two are also in Sunbelt markets.)

All News Stations, Sept. 12, 2012:

1. New York....WINS #7, WCBS #10 tie
2. LA....KNX #19
3. Chicago....WBBM/WCFS(FM) #2
4. San Francisco....KCBS/KFRC(FM) #3, KGO* #16 tie
5. Dallas....KRLD* #21 tie
6. Houston....KROI(FM) #23 tie
7. Washington....WTOP(FM) #1, WNEW-FM ?
8. Philadelphia....KYW #1
9. Atlanta....WYAY(FM) #20 tie
10. Boston....WBZ* #7
11. Detroit....WWJ #4
13. Seattle....KOMO-AM-FM #16
25. Pittsburgh....KQV* ?

* denotes a parttime All-News station. ? denotes station does not report its ratings.

KLIV San Jose gets .5 to a 1.0 on Average but it is a part time all-news station. KLIV also airs San Jose State Sports.

How About ARNN affiliated I know in some areas ARNN News air during drive times and some air the entire day how is that counted in the ratings? I know WMNI and WINK airs the ARNN News. KSFO does air ARNN News but KSFO-AM gets a 1.x in the ratings on Average.

I'm still wondering on the competition of 2 national all-news networks ARNN Vs. Clear Channel's Iheart 24/7 News. What is the results for them exactly. ARNN needs to show us the entire affiliate lists and CC needs to show us the ratings for 24/7 news for October 2012.

If, by "ratings" you mean "Arbitron", there would be no ability to compare the two unless they are on the air in the same market.

ARNN may be streamed online, but it is broadcast (in whole, or in part) on terrestrial radio stations. 24/7 News, unless they've been put on the air somewhere I don't yet know of, is heard through the internet via iHeartRadio (either on your computer, tablet, smartphone, etc).

For now, you would have to find away to compare online listening to both.

ARNN varies by Market Some areas have them as Automated some areas air ARNN Live. I do know Iheart 24/7 News is outright automated but OK its like how some people from Southern California Talk about Xtra all-News from the 1960's where anchors do a rip and read edition and ex-KGO-AM weatherman Lloyd Lindsay Young does the forecasts every 15 minutes.

Automated or live has nothing to do with it. It has to do whether or not the programing is heard over-the-air, on terrestrial radio, in a specific market.

Otherwise, how could you make comparisons and set advertising rates?

ARNN is mostly political news.

AARN really doesn't sound like an All-News station. More like a right-leaning NPR/All Things Considered/Morning Edition. They do a few news stories, then have a long interview with usually Republican lawmakers.

Like Fox News when O'Reilly or Hannity aren't on, the anchors act like they're doing regular interviews of newsmakers. But if you listen for a while, it becomes apparent, the anchors ask leading questions to satisfy conservative listeners, like "Where is Pres. Obama making a mistake in his foreign policy?" The anchors imply the President's foreign policy is wrong without saying it. And the choice of people to interview is also skewed to the right.

I guess the owners of AARN feel anyone who's listening to AM Radio, who already is tuning into Rush and other Conservative Talk hosts, will also become listeners to AARN, if it's aimed to the right.

If AP's All-News service failed a few years ago and NBC's All-News service in the 70s failed, I guess the owners of AARN think they better be more aligned with same Conservative listeners who are already sold on today's Talk Radio.
