WFNX,WAAF are still doing awful. Kiss 108 is still sitting easy on top ( time for 104.1 Amp FM ? ). WEEI is doing great ( No problem with The Sports Hub so far ). Radio One Trash 1090 is almost GONE .

In terms of sports radio ratings, though, WBZ-FM has already become the most successful sports radio competitor to WEEI... and there have been many. And consider, too, that WEEI has been aided greatly with Red Sox coverage - with football season gearing up, WBZ-FM is primed to rise much further.

With PPM this can now be done --- and will be. What do you think the Patriots' season opener on September 14th did for the monthly rollover that ended on September 16th? Red Sox baseball certainly helped WEEI, but at a much lower and consistent number. How much would a monster number of 30+ for a single night help the monthly number overall? The Hub has started quite well, but perhaps not quite as well as originally thought.

Just read an article in today's Boston Herald about Sports Hub vs. WEEI. Overall 25 - 54 males WEEI is number 1, WBZ-FM is number 8.

Jessica Heslam's aricle in the Herald mentioned that WEEI was number 1 in morning and afternoon drive but didn't mention mid-day. The Tanguay and Zolak show is, in my opinion, the worst of the new Hub shows. Anyone know how they did against Dale and Holley?

While CBS and Entercom are concentrating on sports stations, how about Greater Media flipping one of their FMs to an AMP Top-40 format? Seems to make sense given the ratings that WXKS-FM is getting. Would a Top-40 format be less expensive to operate than WTKK and give them more revenue in the end with better ratings? Top-40 is going to be where the next round of radio wars is going to be in this market, and why not Greater Media to do it before WBMX does.

Couldn't agree with you more, WTKK is totally underperforming, flip it to a Rhythmic-Leaning CHR format similar to "AMP" in LA and Detroit and beat CBS to the punch.

10A-3P: WEEI is #2, WBZ-FM #12, M 25-54.

Half wrong. WAAF is #1 with M 25-44 (their target audience) in the full week, AM drive, middays and PM drive. They have double-digit shares if you measure M 25-34.

Re: BOSTON PPM RATINGS RELEASED SEPTEMBER 2009

To see the publicly released overall age 6+ PPM data for September 2009 (Thu. 8/20/09-Wed. 9/16/09), go to the Boston Ratings Grid.

Some additions to the grid:

Station Format Owner

WGAO-FM Rock Dean Junior College
WXKS-AM Spanish Language CHR Clear Channel

The next ratings period will be for October 2009 (Thu. 9/17/09-Wed. 10/14/09), with the publicly released overall age 6+ PPM data available on Thu. 11/5/09.

Yes, WXKS (AM 1430) and WKOX (1200) stopped simulcasting a couple of months ago. They're now different Spanish music formats.

According to Boston Radio Watch http://bostonradiowatch.com/

it was said that in 25-54 "WBZ-FM finished 8th, not 11th as the Herald had said and also in the 18-34s,
WEEI was tied for sixth and WBZ-FM tied for 8th"

In what daypart? For M-Su 6A-12M, WBZ-FM was #12 in M 25-54, #17 in P 25-54. The M 18-34 numbers are correct for the full week. (Source: Arbitron)

I'm quoting Boston Radio Watch (link above) who says he has his own Arbitron source (station overall?):

>>But in the younger male 18-34 demo which favors FM to AM listening, the gap between WEEI AM and WBZ-FM was much smaller - WEEI was tied for 6th while WBZ-FM was tied for 8th according to an Arbitron spokesperson who provided the rankings to BRW.

Question about the ratings:

Doesn't ANYONE listen to WWZN/1510?

There are New Hampshire and Rhode Island stations which are barely heard in parts of the Boston metro, WUNR, WRCA, etc, which show at least a fraction in the ratings. I don't see WWZN at all. Like, zero! Are they really that microscopic?

They don't encode for PPM therefore don't show up.

For only being on the air for about two months, The Sports Hub is doing great. You couldn't expect them to just come in and take over WEEI in a couple of months. Is the Sports Hub pulling in better numbers than WBCN was?
