Sequel to Omnia

O

oncall

Guest
Just installed a sequel preprocessing an Omnia 6, format is Alt Rock (preset is basically factory modern rock with some tweaks to the limiters). Any suggesstions for WB settings in the Omnia as a strarting point. Bypass or engage? drive? any make up gain required? Sequel is set to stereo default preset.

Part of a reply i received from David at Ariane.I'm sure he ,Frank as well as Mike will chime in.they know these boxes very well.Ariane, BEST pre-processor on the planet and that's a fact..I also appreciate them taking time to post on this board.3 of the finest engineers i've ever done business with.Thank You...

As for the Omnia, you can bypass the wideband AGC, but in my own experience doing so seems to change the gain structure making it difficult to keep decent headroom into the multiband AGC.

What I normally suggest is to keep it online, but to slow its 'Release' and 'Attack' way down, and drive it very lightly.

used an arianne into an omnia.fm....did just that...attack release AGC settings as low as they can go...

sounded FAB

"as low as they can go" so off? or 1 to 1.5? what have you done with make up gain and gate? Currently are sitting at 3 and 3.

a quick call to David at Ariane might help.212 222 0330 and you could also contact Mark at Omnia support.Very helpful and eager to assist.can't beat that Omnia support....might be a huge difference between the omnia fm and the 0 6...

If you are going to use a box like the Ariane in front of any processor, you should defeat the AGC in the processor and make sure that you have enough internal gain in the box so that the next stage is being fed as if the internal AGC is active.

If there is no function to defeat the processor (like in the Inovonics Omega), you should slow the AGC so that it does very little KEEPING IN MIND that you want to make sure that the AGC does not, over time, wander into gain reduction and does not release because you have made it either release TOO slow or the gate is too high. That will decrease your overall drive to the AGC's and start to change your sound in a very negative way.

Each situation will take some time to wiggle it in.
