SERIOUSLY JOKING. newstalk radio

Oh boy..
It's SO silly how some talk show hosts are speaking the straight up truth, but are so afraid of offending that they start trying to turn certain things into laughs and jokes as soon as they hit something that's truthful, but touchy.

Anyway, I wont even waste my time getting into it. In this world, there are basically two types of people;
Those who
1. "GET IT" or
2. "DON'T Get it".

No amount of logical talk or reasoning will ever change that.

However, unlike myself, these talk show hosts are being paid to get into it and say what they say, so they should just come straight out and say it, accepting the fact that EVERYONE will not always be capable of GETTING CERTAIN THINGS. Stop trying to sugarcoat and passive aggressively make jokes around the issues you are trying to deliver, ESPECIALLY WHEN you are hitting the factual, common sense parts of your opinions! I'm not saying everyone should be like Mac & Gaydos and clearly repeat and enunciate things multiple times just so people can kind of get it, but.. just come out and say what you really want to say and be prepared to be called all sorts of things by people who are doing the EXACT SAME THINGS THEMSELVES!

Anyway.. I really don't care about these things as much as I used to, but I'll just say this; Say what you want to say and get straight to the point! If you want to beat around the bush and sugarcoat, OR try to subtly cover up and present "offensive" facts with jokes, then join the staff at Family Guy. I know, I'm supposed to be one of those people who don't "get it" and be a victim who's owed everything, but somewhere during my younger years, something went terribly wrong and somehow I developed common sense and the ability to see things... in a different way.

Anyway, SOME of you get somewhat of an idea what I'm getting at here. You either do or you don't. Either way, I've said what I have to say and I'M DONE.

I appreciate those talk show hosts who do say what they mean and mean what they say.

OH - And I should be sure to mention, this does NOT apply to the Barry Young show, as he has found an acceptable, unique, and clever way to combine cocky 'n' funny in such a way that (if you listen) you'll get it. His NATURAL jokes and the fashion in which he conducts his show actually helps him make his points, in addition to the fact that his jokes are not coming from a deep inner fear of offending the public on any particular issue.

I will not get into the psychology of laughter and why when people laugh or joke around something, a high percentage of the time it's usually due to nervousness and not even in regards to anything funny. However, I will say this; Talk radio should not be the place where you come to laugh off or water down something you know is true, but are too afraid to say directly. As long as you joke and your jokes are based on a fear, people will never take whatever issue you are trying to present seriously. Maybe they may get it if explained correctly, but the subconscious mind will rule it out as "non serious material" and what they've "learned" will quickly be pass off and forgotten.

Ah! A person who sees everything in black and white. Off or On. Right or Wrong.

Actually, there are a lot of people who see things in "shades of gray" and a log of people who see things and issues "in various tones of color".

For some people, getting a well rounded education will get them off the Right/Wrong, Black/White frame of thinking.

For some people, getting older and watching some of the causes you thought you understood turn to mush in your clenched fist will mellow the thinking.

And yet, some will navigate a long, bump-filled life and still cling to their "everything is either black-or-white mentality".

Go take a few psychology courses my friend.

Find someone new on the radio to listen to.

Find yourself an intriguing lover and then struggle with the task of making him/her happy.

If I'm still around, let's continue this conversation in about 20 years.

Now. I have a decision to make. What would make her happy today.... flowers or candy?

1. I don't think you understand what I'm REALLY getting at here. After all, what I said was intentionally vague, so I expected that many would jump to conclusions without having a full understanding about what I'm talking about.

2. I think the word "basically" was either overlooked, or missed. As a matter of fact, I intentionally and specifically threw in that word for a purpose. I almost added a third option for those who are stuck in the grey area between "getting it" and "not getting it", but decided last minute I could conserve time by just using the word "basically" before "two types of people".

In about 20 years, I believe I'll still see logic and common sense as logic and common sense, and the opposite to still be the opposite. Why do I say this? Because most people my age will begin to see the things I've been seeing and observing IN ABOUT 20 years from now. I would get into a full, detailed explanation on how I know this, but without knowing exactly what I was talking about to begin with (which is what all I'm saying now is based upon), it wouldn't make much sense. I have my reasons for choosing not to get fully into it in the first place on these boards and just keep it directed mostly towards the radio side of things.

It's not really about right or wrong, it's mostly about thinking and using NATURAL logic & common sense... today in 2010. This simple concept alone would prevent an incredible amount of the unnecessary problems that exist in the world today. Doing, or simply defining what's right or wrong in most cases will not change much.  ;)

Ironically, what I'm getting at has to do with a situation (or situation(S)) where people are quick to make assumptions, get upset, place blame, label, and call names over a situation that they have little to no knowledge about in the first place... I wouldn't say it's really right or wrong to make assumptions and make a full decision based on an emotion of anger that was based purely on assumption or hearsay to begin with, rather than researching the FACTS if available. However, between 1) researching the facts, and 2) jumping to a conclusion, getting upset, and acting upon that emotion, only ONE of those two options makes logical, common sense. That example I made is just ONE example to the many I have in regards to what I'm getting at. I'm sure that Tina (and a few others who are secretly viewing this page) would also agree...  ;D

Emotion is not logical (which you learn when it comes to the laws of attraction.. but that's a whole different topic), but that's no excuse to just run willy nilly, go crazy, and criticize everything we don't FEEL is right, just because we, or someone in general, does not FEEL good about it. Common sense, facts, or logic does not always feel good. You could also make the excuse that logic isn't everything. However, if more people thought and acted based on logic and common sense, we would be more productive today, and not have to make dumb laws like "no texting & driving", "no DRINKING and driving", or "no enslaving passengers in a plane for over 3 hours, or else..." to force people to use common sense, or have people pulling the race card and bringing up past experiences as an excuse for every thing on this planet that they dislike or think is unfair (unless of course they are the ones doing it). Now, see my pics on facebook, twitter, myspace..etc. and think "wow, and HE out of all people can see this and is pointing it out and saying it"? The answer is YES! I could sit here, pull the R card, use it as an excuse, and choose to believe that everyone's keeping me down or that police... sheriff is out to get me just because I look a certain way, but common sense and logic tells me that if I'm not doing anything "wrong" in the fist place, then I really have nothing to worry about! What's even funny is that what I just underlined was a direct quote / line from Family Guy! Hmmm...their staff GETS IT.....

I believe in 20 years, I'll still wont be too fond of any of the examples of non-common sense / illogical, and basically absurd, behaviors I described above.

By the way (to everyone) now you see why I left all those links to my site & pics above? Because I somehow almost always just know when eventually I'll have to use certain things in an example or explanation, so I just get it out of the way before hand  ;D

Perhaps you're attempting to be ironic by telling talk show hosts to "say what they want to say" and then you have multi-paragraph rant where you say nothing. You didn't mention anyone, aside from Barry Young (apparently this rant wasn't about him in the first place) so I don't really know what shows you're indicting with this rant.

More specifics, less wordiness and perhaps having a point would be advisable in the future.

I did mention that I intentionally left it vague, but obviously I forgot to explain WHY.
It was left vague for a purpose, and the reason is because I know exactly what will happen if I get into specifics.

So, I had to make a decision as I thought about what I wanted to say and realized it probably wouldn't be wise for me to get too blunt.

I could either

A. Get too blunt and waste time talking only for it to be deleted, or
B. Still manage to make a point without getting too deep into any one specific, controversial subjects, and use rather "safe" subjects as examples of what I mean.

There is no C because I was not going to not say something I wanted to say, especially when I have the freedom to say it (in an acceptable way)...

I knew if I chose A, it would be pointless, so I chose B, accepting the fact that not everyone was going to get it. Since I am not getting paid to deliver an opinion and I'm mostly on my own terms, I am free to deliver my message in whatever style I wish. However, since the RADIO board is moderated, my freedom does not include the freedom to "get as harsh or controversial as I wish", even if RADIO is talking about it.

So, as a result, what you see is what you get. The first post was extremely vague, but with my second reply posting now also included above, there is now indeed enough info there for all people who are in (or just listen to) talk radio to at least get some level of understanding of what I'm saying in general. Really, I don't even have to get into specific subjects. It's plain and simple. ---> *If you know you're one of those talk radio hosts feeling like I might be talking about you, then most likely I am. So with that being said, all that REALLY needs to be done here is for certain people to go back, think about an "uncomfortable" issue or two they've discussed or needed to get off their chest by use of airwaves (once or multiple times), and think "Hmmm... which one of those stories did I nervously make jokes about or try to sugarcoat because I was too afraid of just getting straight to the point and offending those who wouldn't get it and risk being called a .....(- fill in blank here -)?"

Follow that simple *step by step process and I guarantee that those of you meant to get it will have their curiosities about what I'm really getting at COMPLETELY fulfilled. ;)

I believe I got as close to specifics as I could without "going too far" and getting deleted (or even being placed in "take it outside"). Bottom line, you either get it or you don't.

So with that being said, I am having a barbeque at my house in June and only those who get it are invited, but only if you get it....

YIKES! This is the second BBQ Nurse Jeff and I'll miss in as many months. At least there's Bill Johnsons!
