Service exits have began

I apologize if this has been discussed already, but why would Radio One retain some of the staff from Majic and then plug them into the KRNB lineup? It kind of defeats the purpose of buying up a successful station if you're just going to replace it with the staff of your second fiddle operation.
To the victor goes the spoils. Radio One is in charge and wants their people in place. People that know what their expectations are. People they've hired and trained.

I know there has to be some downsizing, but I'd thought the staff from Majic would've been the ones let go and KRNB the ones retained. I guess it comes down to salaries?

Almost nobody keeps the staff they're acquiring when they buy the competition, even when the competition did better.

Salaries might have a little to do with it, but you usually keep the people you know. I remember when I worked for a company that acquired some stations in a new market, and most of the new employees did nothing but grumble and complain about how we did things differently and weren't as good as the previous owner. Needless to say, those people didn't last long, and we had intended to keep most of them. As one of my co-workers who went over there to help for a few weeks put it, "I've always looked down on companies like Clear Channel, who go in and fire an entire staff when they take over, but I now know why they do that!"

When I was doing some research on the history of Service Broadcasting, I found a blog post that made reference to how well their staff were paid. Granted, that blog post was from quite a while ago, but I have a feeling that salaries were very much a contributing factor in the changes.
