Sesame Street keeps cutting back on classic clips

So far this season on Sesame Street, they have not shown any segments from before 2008. That's when the show first started broadcasting in HD, and if they were to show a segment filmed in SD, the picture would squash from 16:9 to 4:3, so I guess they figure it just doesn't look good.

I have to say this makes me really upset and depressed. In the early 90s, it seemed like they could use anything they wanted to going as far back as 1969, and by the mid 90s they cut back on using old live-action films, but still used a lot of old muppet sketches. Then in 1998, they cut the number of shows per season in half and started using less and less old clips, especially from the 70s. In 2002 when the format changed, they cut back even further. They didn't use too much from the 80s anymore, but still used a fair amount of material from the 90s. After 2009, it seemed like they very rarely if ever used anything even from the 90s, and now they don't even show anything from 2006. I was even told that parents actually complained about their kids watching a 20-30-year-old show. I have to say I do not agree with this, I would want my kids to watch SS old or new. What do you guys think about this?

The classic SS DVDs have disclaimers not recommending them for kids. Some material may not be PC anymore. Maybe they think clips from 30 years ago might not be as educational since Kindergarten is the new 1st grade. Maybe they just think Cookie Monster would be a bad role model eating cookies because of rising childhood obesity. Probably the big reason is for consistency. A 3 year old 30 years ago couldn't tell how old a clip is.
