Hey all -
As The Golden Boy pointed out earlier, WYAB will be moving to 103.9 sometime this year. There are, however, several NEW stations coming to the state and others making moves.
WJNS 92.1 FM in Yazoo City has been granted a CP to move its community of license to Bentonia and then place its tower in Flora, which would provide full 60 dBu coverage to almost all of the city of Jackson (according to the FM coverage simulation computer) and to 196,000 people overall - to 344,000 people if you extend coverage out to 50 dBu. Get ready for more Jimmy Swaggart than ever before!
Yazoo City residents need not worry, however, as a new noncommercial station licensed to Benton (which will cover Yazoo City) on 88.3 FM (7.8 kW) will be on the air by the end of the year. Former District 21 Senator Joseph C. Thomas plans to run it and to make it a gospel station with local sports and information.
Also, a new station is coming to Greenville on 91.9 FM - don't know when it will be or who will be programming it.
There are also a few new Delta stations coming to the airwaves next year - one licensed to Itta Bena to serve Greenwood on 89.7 FM (7.4 kW) and a new station licensed to Merigold to serve Cleveland and Clarksdale on 89.5 FM (41.0 kW). The Licensee should have those up and running by Summer of 2009.
Those are just some of the new ones - more will follow.
