Several School Stations in Area May Lose Their Licenses

According to RadioInsight, the F.C.C. is plannng to cancel the licenses of several low-powered stations that have been operated by schools in the region, due to the lack of license renewal applications. These include: WXBA in Brentwood NY; WOSS in Ossining NY; WNYK in Nyack NY; and WCVH in Flemington NJ.
WNYK was operated by Nyack College, which closed its campus in that town several years ago. WCVH is/was a high school station in Flemington NJ with a country music format.
From RadioInsight

On Friday I e-mailed Hunterdon County Regional High School asking if they intend to renew the WCVH license. No response yet.

WCVH filed an application for license renewal on May 23rd. They're still on the air, playing country music, although I'm not hearing any IDs -- not even a legal ID at the top of the hour.

Perhaps they're checking their budgets, and see radio differently than the way it was viewed 30-40 years ago. Radio must rank right up there, in priority, next to wood shop and metal shop and blueprint reading.

Later yesterday I heard some station IDs and USA Radio Network News on WCVH. But the modulation level is very low, it doesn't sound like there's any AGC because older, conservatively mastered songs stay consistently quieter than newer "Loudness War"-mastered songs, and the audio is mostly only in the right channel. So they clearly have some audio chain issues to work out.

Last I heard they were using a barefoot Optimod 8100, but that was as of several years ago when their audio sounded a lot better than it does today.
