Severe Weather coverage after 7PM

Where do I begin...

1. Glad you think I'm funny and I liked hummers too, until I dated/married/divorced several lousy ones and I grew up. You may too, one day.

2. Because of success in Iraq, America has just developed war technology to build automatic weather radios that activate automatically. Amazing... space is next.

3. 970 WFLA is #1 in Tampa Bay for men and women 25-54 proving people under 60 listen to AM, just not the knuckle draggers you chum with. Ask them, they'll tell you between tokes.

4. The DHS doesn't tell federally licensed broadcast stations to do anything, that shame falls to the FCC. But Obama and democrats have a plot to gut conservative talk radio. Stand by for more change.

5. AM stations are assigned primary EAS responsibility because they often employ a knowledgable staff in possession of top-notch talent. FM jocks require a chair and a pulse.

That is all.

You should contact this poster and tell her about WFLA's great numbers:

I just NEVER like listen to AM radio since like Cuzzin Brucie went to FM, you know it's so like not there, ya know? If Mix or Magic did like some awesome PM weather , I'd be like so there!

That is actually NOT the reason. It has nothing to do with the staff or talent.

I will concede ( climbing out of the valley) that WWRM gives good local reports up to 7PM. What is strange to me is why WJQB ( of course they are on my presets) has Denny B. giving the weather regularly while Scott plays the music off the bird. When Cox goes to the bird like Delilah, runs jockless like WDUV or WXGL, or voice tracks 9 hour dayparts on WPOI-----------there is no news or weather. WDUV used to give weather updates around the clock several years ago, but seems to have stopped. Other than that, since I was kicked to "take it outside" because of my comments about politics, I am not getting into any fueds about anything.

About AM radio seriously. Way back in the day when AM ruled, it seemed reception was better. I have read multiple explanations as to why AM radio reception has decreased, but I don't really understand the technology of it. I do know that reception is impacted by storms and FM is more reliable to listen to as it seems to come in better. Therefore I think that FM should a source for emergency weather. I know you have weather radio bands, but not on a standard car radio. Being an older woman, I am not really up on gadgets or fixing up stuff. I just wish we could have a full service AC like back when they were live 24/7. Sorry if I offended any struggling PD's stringing wire in the garage.

NewsSpud, you are a keen observer.

True I am... but no need for name calling.

Naughtytalker is admittedly getting older but still looks ****able and that's all that matters.

Hey, buddy... nobody ever doubted you weren't a member of the "Beautiful People Club."

As for EBS vs. EAS vs. EMS, it's a potato/potatoe world, just ask Dan Quayle. Oops, more recent history you may have missed.

Didn't miss that one. I remember the Vice-President making a fool of himself in front of elementary schoolkids who paid much more attention in class than he obviously did. I'm pretty good with history actually.

Nobody makes money babysitting you and wiping spit from your bib.

One day, a home health care worker will. But allow me to remove the snarkiness of my last question because I am truly curious: If bad weather should strike in the middle of the night, will 970 WFLA be able to include it in the news blocks at the top and bottom of the hour? Because I've been trained to get "News, Traffic & Weather" at those times. I might miss the EAS message which, as we all know, isn't a scheduled event.

I agree that overnight radio news is not the moneymaker it once was for WFLA. After all, WFLA isn't an all-news, all-the-time station a la WCBS (And I'm talking formatically and technically - a 50KW clear channel (not Clear Channel) with no talk shows and with traffic and weather every ten minutes 24/7 - not ideologically... with associated suspected or proven liberal bias on part of that station's parent company)

I'm one of those old scruel guys who instinctively turns on my radio for immediate information. I know I'm in the suspected minority these days because I don't head to Bay News 9 first.

As for going 50/50 on a radio station... show me the money and stay out of my way.

Tell you what, I'll sit back and let you do your thing... stepping in only when I think you make a critical error... which probably won't be often. This way, you can just give me daily updates on our joint business by calling me on in the midst of my golf game.

and I thought Naughtytalker was female. Seems like a moniker that a woman would use ???

MsMusic,
I am whatever you want me to be princess, let me exist in your dark fantasies as a hermaphrodite of hedonism.

NewsSpud,
I've never made a critical error and the contract you sign to secure my services will ensure I play through too.

Oh-------so Naughtytalker is MJ from the Morning Show or Todd from the PM show. At least that what is the DB Cooper fan club tells me to say.

No that's not who he is. ;)

His identity has been obliquely referenced in a previous post. Just sayin'.

Yep! But I ain't gonna blow his cover. Too much fun watching people guess! :D

Am I the only one who thought to visit the website of the radio station he so ardently defends?? Huh

I tried, but I keep getting distracted by all the photos of the top fifty women who either were on a sitcom thirty years ago or who need green cards.

I guess the bottom line is to get your own NWS SAME weather radio for home and car if you really want to know what's going on with the weather...

Enjoy the day...

OK , so I don't know who Naughtytalker is. I must presume he ( you said that) is a CC employee who has thrived in their pay. He is loyal to CC until he gets the axe. Usually, a woman might call her boyfriend naughty or a guy might call his girl naughty------but usually males socialized in our culture probably would not choose a name like this unless-----------??????????????

It could be that he just enjoys irritating people.
:D

It's not part of our American Clint Eastwood/ Ronald Reagan culture for a man to refer himself as "naughty". His woman can slide up to the bar, elbow him in the ribs, and say he was naughty last night before he heads out to another cattle drive. If Naughtytalker is a cowboy, he must be from Brokeback Mountain or at least the suburbs :p
