Man we are about to get hammered soon. So I will stay online as long as possible. Tunica County is under a tornado warning. I am in Southaven and watching this storm very closely,.

Hope you did stay online, 'cuz gawd knows...no-one's going to get severe weather information from the radio anymore....

Hmmm, I guess I didn't hear on the radio what I heard yesterday while watching lightning dance across the sky while the rain poured in Collierville. Time to get the ol' ears checked ::)

Who had reports on? I was sucked into the TV most of the day.

Keep in mind I am a constant button pusher, but I know WREC, Rock 103, I think FM 100. Oh, and 95.3, too (a station that is growing on me).

I'm outside the Memphis market but I gotta say I watched (online) WMC's DT-3 feed of NBC WeatherPlus. That channel was royally screwed up during the severe weather. At first it was the local severe weather coverage, then cut suddenly to the national feed. Then it was the national feed with the severe coverage audio, then just the audio only and no picture.

I wonder if that went out over the air or if it was just the streaming feed.

I'm in Grenada and don't have cable, so needless to say, my severe weather coverage is limited.

The TV stations didn't feel the need to break in for tornado warnings except for a few minutes per break... And all three local FM's promptly went off the air and stayed that way for the duration. The only real consistent radio updates came from MPB and the AFR station on 88.7 in the Delta.

Can I assume, from what I did see on WMC's digital channel, that Memphis stations generally break programming for any tornado warnings in the market?

Back in Birmingham it's pretty much a pasttime, watching severe weather coverage. The big four networks fight it out; the ABC affiliate ("ABC 33/40") is noted for not having any commercials or breaks of any kind during tornado warnings, even if it's for six hours.

Hey Zach.... I was in Grenada Saturday during the storm with only Memphis TV via satellite... Turned on a crappy radio that we found when the sirens went off to hear nothing but music..

but you can always rely on
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/alerts/ms.html
or the graphical version
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/view/nationalwarnings.php?map=on

that's what I did Saturday night

are you not able to pick up 6 & 15 or maybe even 4 & 9 from Tup/Col OTA?
I couldn't fine any rabbit ears where I was to even attempt.

What we get is dependent on which TV is being watched.

15 is very snowy on the TV in my bedroom and non-existant on the main TV in the living room. 6 is non-existant on analog on both TV's but the living room TV can get the digital version, barely. When the weather gets bad, the signal disappears. 4 is also practically non-existant.

9 from Tupelo is the only network channel that puts a good signal in here, but being east of here their weather coverage didn't start until it was all clear here.

15 broke in when there were tornado warnings for the counties around Cleveland and Greenville but the signal is so weak I couldn't make much out... Funny thing is when the tornado tearing through Dumas was confirmed on the ground, 15 made a quick note of it and went right back to basketball.

I'll be honest with you, Michael - I've got satellite. When I moved out here from Birmingham, we got a new dish and receivers installed for the HD upgrade. And the contractors took care of dealing with DirecTV and somehow, we got to keep our Birmingham locals. I guess we're on the edge of their locals spot-beam service because the locals (in HD and SD!) go out well before the other channels during rain events...

I checked DirecTV's guide online for locals and it says that they serve the Greenwood-Greenville-Lake Village market, but that the service is NOT available at my address! Strange thing is, the people here before us, had DirecTV and had locals from Columbus!

How'd you manage to get Memphis on satellite that far out of the market? I'd like to know. I wouldn't mind switching local markets if it means keeping the networks in HD, which I believe DirecTV offers for the Memphis market.

OTA, only 6 from Greenwood does HD. 9 isn't doing digital yet and 15 probably isn't. Or if they are, it isn't making it here... PBS is the only reliable digital signal here. Although in the mornings sometimes I've gotten 3, 5, 10, 24, 40 and 50 in digital for a few hours.

My friend moved there from Clarksdale and hasn't changed anything on his dish... He is planning on having cable one install cable and internet soon.... he is tired of paying for DSL & Phone service... the other way is allot cheaper....

I get down your way pretty often I have a few friends in G-town and even out in Holcomb.

are you using Rabbit ears or an outside antenna?
