Severin denies CBS/W1 "CUT AND RUN" with his show...

A post on Free Republic/Mass. board by ThirstyMan said: "Speaking of bloviators, I listened to Severin yesterday. A caller asked him point blank why he was dropped from national syndication. He said he wasn't dropped, his rating numbers were really good but he lacked a home....? and the evening slot didn't suit him very well...? so he decided to move back to Boston...? OK Jay. Hey he's lied so many times in the past that I can't believe a thing he says. Perhaps his critical, cut and run policy on Iraq didn't sell very well across the nation. IMHO, Severin will always be a man without a home --- no matter where he lives."

My response:
"I think CBS/W1 dropped Severin (they're cutting corners--took a big hit on Stern)
and he's trying to put a shine on a sneaker here. While it is true that evening talk shows get lower ratings as a whole, plus some of his affiliates were pre-empting him for sports (WPHT--Phillies), I'd think he really was fired by them..and Greater Media figured they'd give him a good long term deal to have him do afternoons (where he actually did get some good ratings).

"He may work well in "schweet Boston" but face it, he flopped nationally (one poss. reason, other than the fact that he turns many listeners off: he was up against Savage)"

Move back Boston?
His national show was heard in Boston.
He didn't live in Boston before. He did his old local show from Long Island, where he lived.

Now there is speculation his new local show will be syndicated.
Then it won't be a local show any more.
He didn't do great in Boston with a non-local show, and he didn't do that great elsewhere either.
It makes no sense for him to try syndication again.
Boston has shown you can syndicate regionally like Howie Carr. The rest of New England will accept a Boston show. But Boston wants a local show (at least mostly local plus some regional, as well).

Supposedly Greater Media is making the show available for those who'll take it...which means so much for their promoting it as "Boston only".
It's said Jay wants to buy a house on the North Shore of Boston (where I live) and might do the show from
there (rather than the Morrissey Blvd GM-headquarters)
Yes maybe like Howie (about a dozen New England-only affiliates) he can do well syndicated in New
England only.
WPRO had been running him but they have local talk with Dan Yorke at 3 pm; maybe could run tape delayed
Severin at 6 or 7 pm and push back Hannity.

Where else would he be picked up--Hartford/Springfield? Burl VT? Manch NH? Portland...?

The boston show will be syndicated by Westwood One and be fed taped delayed at his previous national show time (7-10) according a friend of mine who is a PD.

Let me get this straight.

The national show was discontinued. He didn't have that many stations to begin with. The CBS owned stations dropped the show and found replacements when the announcement was made. Who knows how many others?

He announces he's going back to Boston to do a local show in PM drive.

Now, Westwood is going to put the local Boston show back in syndication - on delay, not live - for any of the stations that have not found a replacement and still want to take it.

Dumb.

PS: According to WWI website, the national show did not get any New England clearances except Boston and a small station in Taunton, unless you want to include Albany in New England, too. Maybe New England syndication was not so great an opportunity after all.

Thats correct from how I understand it. I think he still has 30 affiliates or so. I don't know why Jay isnt admitting this?

Yes, the shine wore off of this guy a long time ago.
Truthful, he ain't.
But I still prefer him to Howie Carr.
