Severin Repeats?

Right now they are playing Severin's show from last Friday. This is the third time in the last two weeks that I've heard a repeat. But they haven't been announcing them as "radio rewinds" or anything. What's going on over at 96.9?

LOL! Did the former PD from RKO end up over there? Every Saturday morning from 10a to 1p it's reruns of shows from the past week, 20 minutes of this show, 10 minutes of that show, 20 minutes of this show, y a w n!

It's hard to tell when Jay repeats. I mean his shtick is always the same: bashing gays, a joke about the size of Hillary Clinton's rear end, a desperate attempt to brag about his supposed sexual conquests, vilifying immigrants, and playing air guitar and make believe rock DJ over ancient rock music.

hey... air guitar while DJ-ing is awesome. Let's just say I'm glad there isn't a webcam when I record my show :)

How about answering the question instead of inserting a cheap shot? He wasn't interested in your opinion, he wanted to know if anyone knew why it was a repeat.

Can we have some objectivity around here once in a while?

Garrett, he wasn't giving an opinion, he was giving fact. The statements aren't somebody's interpretation of Jay, they are 100% fact.

He does bash gays.
He does talk incessently about our next President's backside.
He does talk about this babe, and that babe, and how supposedly great he is with the ladies.

Not opinion, but fact.

I am afraid like so many others who have tried to go syndicated Jay Severin is just not going to make it. Like the dog who jumps for the reflection of the larger bone in the pond and gets soaked I think Jay is in the same position.

Just don't listen to him at that hour and in the syndy format. Severin's schtick works locally and during the day but not at night.

Don't see Jay Severin's show lasting through the summer.

Nothing political: it just isn't working.

Missing the point.

But all of that is off topic, because the question was about why it's a repeat, not what is the content of Jay's show. And yet, nobody has even attepted to answer the question yet.

You people keep bringing up politics....

None of that is of my concern, nor is it relevant to the subject. If you don't like Jay, don't listen to his show.

Couple things..

I didn't miss the point, I know the poster doesn't like Severin, that's obvious. The original question was "Why are there repeat shows" And the answer, right on target, was "How could you tell it's a repeat when the same thing is said over and over" That is an answer to the question asked.

And "You people keep bringing up politics"

No, Jay Severin keeps talking about Hillary's butt....he's bringing up, not us. It's mentioned here AFTER he said it.

UPDATE: not all repeat

> .....he wanted to know if anyone knew why it was a repeat.

Exactly. I could debate the content of the show all day, but I was simply looking for any info about the repeats. Sometimes it's not obvious, but when I recognize callers from a previous show and he says "it's Friday!!!!!" on a Monday then the repitition is obvious.

Last night, the first two hours were a repeat from Friday (3/31) but the last hour was from Monday 4/2 (live).

I wonder if they're doing this on purpose?

I do like the show. I happened to notice that he seems to take less vacation now than before when he was only on 96.9 They used to play someone else like Hannity when he was gone, but now if they are just going to play unannounced reruns then I may tune out.

sorry 'bout that...bad assumption on my part.

It takes a big man to apologize!
(but I'll accept your apology anyway... LOL)

Interesting ...

There is an actual fill-in host this week while Jay is on vacation. This is the first one I've heard since he started in January.

Garrett - the moderating is done by an official moderator. You tried forcing your opinion on the previous
radio-info board.

If someone brings up a topic like Severin, additional thoughts on how his show is doing are acceptable
to this reader, not moderator, reader of radio-info. It's better than having three separate threads on
Jay Severin.

That being said:

REPEATS: Hosts like Severin being repeated is like reading last week's newspaper. Put a sub in.

SEVERIN'S FOUL MOUTH: Bush league radio, no pun intended. He is not sincere.

SEVERIN IN SYNDICATION: I've stated this about RKO's pushing Depetro and Todd Feinburg down our
ears. WTKK stayed with Severin for far too long. He finally made a dent in the market, however,
I agree he - like Howie Carr - isn't radio for a national spotlight. How long would his ratings have
lasted? AND no one seems to be bringing up the fact that Howie Carr's stale show only bounced back
because his competition, which was getting to him, is gone. Severin and Carr can't take the heat of
national competition. They can only work in the small pond, and when pitted against each other they both drain each other's little pond of listeners.

Again, Garrett, it's not worth three separate threads to go over these topics, started by the topic of
Severin Repeats. Just my opinion as a reader of this board.

Severin got monster ratings as a local host, which was why he was able to compete with Howie. Howie is always in the top 3 most listened to radio shows in the city in his time slot. He is the dominant talk host in the market. That is simply factual, making your claims to the contrary seem odd. To claim that he is an inadequate host because his national syndication hasn't panned out is silliness - he's a titan in the 11th market in the country, and does great throughout New England.

WRKO is the dominant talk station in the market. That is another obvious, indisputable fact. If WRKO sat alone in the market as the stations with better ratings do, it would be in the top three all the time instead of the top 5 or 6. What would happen to WBZ's numbers if there was a competetive all news station - to WBUR if there was another NPR talk station - to WEEI if there was a competetive sports talkers?

We understand that you hate conservatives and conservative talk radio. That is your perogative. Its unfortunate, thought, that space here is wasted by people who need to be in radio therapy.

And by the way, Hillary as President and the Impeachment of Bush would be a godsend for conservative talk radio, but nothing could get people to listen to Al Franken et al.

Well said, John. Maybe one day we can get back to discussing radio topics, not hoping for the demise of a radio station.

I started this topic to discuss why WTKK airs unannounced show repeats, not to slam the station. Most other stations announce when a host is on vacation. Isn't this a reasonable assumption?

It is my opinion that Westwood One (Jay's syndicator) should be announcing that the show airing is a "best-of". I listen to Kim Komando's Computer show on a couple different stations I can pick up where I live - WICC Bridgeport-CT, WGY Albany-NY, WHAM Rochester-NY, and online from WSB Atlanta-GA and when Kim's show is in "best-of" mode the same announcer is on all the stations saying "This is the best-of Kim Komando". That tells me that this is done by Kim's syndicaor - Weststar.

We had a local talk show here in Connecticut and when his show was gonna be a "best-of" a station employee would say "You're Listening to the Best of". That's the only time I've heard a local station say "You're Listenting to the Best of".

Hey John Was 5

You have no argument from me that Al Franken is better when he shuts up and lets his great guests speak.
Though his elocution is better than Howie's, he is too slow for radio. Let him write another book.

Your hyperbole on RKO makes it clear you are a shill/employee or too fanatical to see the damage caused
by this alleged "Administration", and Jay Severin's many MANY months of struggle before he got his ratings in
afternoon drive. Greater Media stood by their man, the former WRKO host.

That both Howie and Severin lack any sincerity or core beliefs speaks volumes. Say what you will about
we progressives - we really believe it. Howie and Jay laugh all the way to the bank, so it is all about $$$$.

If there were a level playing field in this region, Carr and Severino wouldn't have a prayer. Your claim regarding Howie nationally is more hype. Without giving specific numbers, please provide some facts. Republicans are known for calling hot "cold" and if it is sugar call it vinegar. KarlRove speech. Please.

thank you.
