Severin to sue?

I don't know if this is really Jay Severin but the following was twittered:

>>@Jay_Severin Jay Severin
Boston Lawsuit of the Century: Me (i.e. a valid agreement and contract) v. WTKK 96.9 who decided to go "No Issues/Dork Radio", firing me.Go!

(He also pokes at Greater Media saying the new movie "Horrible Bosses" was "filmed at WTKK"...)

Getting responses from his fans/followers: "you go Jay! Miss your show."..."Haven't listened to WTKK
since they cowardly fired you" and others saying they hate Doug Meehan, etc.

Again there may or may not be anything to this but...will he prevail or be as (non)-successful as Howie
legal-wise?

I can't imagine a basis for a lawsuit here. Wrongful dismissal? Hardly.

As for Meehan, his show may not be everyone's cup of (pardon the expression) tea, but anyone who hates Doug on a personal level because of his show clearly has enough "issues" already.

Yup...again I can't tell if the twitter account is really Severin or not (it was re-tweeted by @bostonradio ) but he also offers this. B+B I assume means "best and brightest" not "bed and
breakfast". (Reunite on the airwaves, where?)

@jay_severin
To my B+B in Boston/New England: Grateful for all your comments. I expect to soon reunite w/you on airwaves. More on my F-book site. Cheers

From the wall of his supposed Facebook page (not to be confused with The Real Jay Severin Fan Page)
http://www.facebook.com/jayseverin?sk=wall

June 17 (of WTKK and Meeghan): "They suck, he sucks, I will soon return, with You, and Crush them."

July 2: "My Dear B+B: I hope to have new for us within several days. As you can appreciate, (1) getting back on-air (2) on major station (3) in prime time without (4) without leaving Boston (I had many offers from other cities - but no way I am leaving here) (5) in this economy (6) and doing it all within a few months time is, well, not easy. Stay tuned! Fondly, J"
That one got about 123 comments

Ha ha, I went to his Facebook page (if it is really him) and he sounds like a poor imitation of Charlie Sheen!

The reason media people launch lawsuits is because they're not intelligent enough to do anything else. "You unfairly stole the only job I know how to do, so I will SUE!!!"

ChrisNH- You have routinely attacked folks that choose broadcasting for a career for years on this board. Some deserving, some undeserving. What gives? Should it just be a "hobby?"

Radio people sue when they get booted for bits they have done before, with no complaints from the management, because the books were good.

Do the same bit when the ratings are sliding, and they don't like the fact the talent is getting big bucks for falling ratings, and they will use it as an excuse to blow you out the door.

Then the only recourse is to ask the courts to order specific performance.

GM is betting the cost of legal fees/damages are less than the cost of putting him on the beach for the duration of his contract.

As for Jay's future in radio, he's probably toast, at least in major market/high paying gigs.

At least he didn't claim he was hacked like one Twittering Congressman... ::)

I could end up eating my words, but I do not think a guy who was number 16 in the market will get offeres from anywhere but a 1000 watt yacker in Moose Poop, Iowa; even if he is number one in some hearts.

Nobodty asked, just my opinion.

So far no sign he's being signed anywhere.
How about his syndie show, the one he left WTKK for...which lasted about 9 months (TKK did carry it here, though). Jay Severin really did have issues! When he came back he claimed he wanted to just do a show in Boston. Right. I still remember the first show when one of the first callers asked how his lovely wife and daughter were doing. Jay, who had crafted a kind of swingin' single persona, haughtily said "I don't know what you're talking about". End of discussion.

He is indeed beloved by some though (see some groups on Facebook)

>> "In September 2005, CBS Radio announced that Jay Severin would host a show for select Infinity Broadcasting stations called 'Jay Severin Has Issues'. Severin returned to WTKK on 9 October 2006, after nine months in syndication."

I was at WRKO when he got here. When Mike Elder took over as PD (another brillant Entercom move) he asked some of us if we thought we had anyone at TKK to fear. Most of us agreed that Severino may take some audience from us at PM Drive. He wasn't bad at first. He pushed his cool daddy routine too hard and eventually looked like a fool when the truth became known. He started to call his audience the B&B, but when anyone tried to make a contrary point, he would hang up and continue to berate them with no ability to answer.

He became too in love with himself, it showed and listeners left. I doubt that Peter Smythe for whom I worked no toiled at WMEX isn't getting much hate mail. Well not for the Severin thing anyway.
