SEVERIN UPDATE.......

G

GLICKNICK

Guest
Severin is doing his national show from 7-10pm. While 96.9 has
an exclusive negotiation period until Dec. 31, he will likely be on
from 7-10pm. Where would Laura Ingraham go? Perhaps a one hour delayed
feed from 10am-1pm? That would bump Mike Barnicle (the plagarist) and
Egan and Braude. So, here is the predicted lineup...
5:30am-10am-Imus (a mess)
10am-1pm-Laura Ingraham
1pm-3pm-Bill O'Reilly
3pm-7pm-Michael Graham
7pm-10pm-Jay Severin
10pm-1am-Sean Hannity
1am-5:30am-John and Jeff

After Bill O'Reilly called for the destruction of San Francico by Islamo-terrorists on his show don't be so sure O'Reilly will still have a talk show on WTKK.
As Keith Olbermann mentioned tonight on COUNTDOWN, O'Reilly is another Joe McCarthy.

While I personally don't mind Olbermann and can find him entertaining on occassion, do you really believe a guy filing a report on his competitor that's beating him by 500%. Speaking of clobbered, that's about what happened to Keith Olbermann's career. The only time I saw WTKK ratings was in the Drudge story awhile back that show O'Reilly/96.9 at about 85% of Rush/680's ratings. Still true?

Small correction: Bohannon's AITM 5-5:30am. I'd almost rather see the whole hour, since Imus' 5:30 segment isn't technically a part of the show and is rather NYC-centric. I may enjoy Chuck McCord, but there are better talents to host my early AMD long-form news. Perhaps WSJ This Morning would go 5-6.

Laura Ingraham does well enough to stay on TKK, but Hannity is much bigger and gets relegated to talkradio outer darkness by default. Not that E&B are anything to write home about, and I've never listened to Barnicle to comment, but replacing the last gasp of legitimate local talk seems like it might require a bit of thought. If Laura gets dumped, WTTT will be waiting with open arms.

a turn to the right....

if you look at the ratings in most markets, conservative talk is what
sells....it is about the money (unless you are NPR which gets a tax
payer financial kiss)....While I would love to hear a good liberal talker..
is there one? I had thought that Braude/Severin would be a great match
up. Look at the Boston radio scene...is there one liberal talker?
(Air America does not count, as the ratings show)

Re: Jay Severin

With Severin's live feed being 7 to 10 P.M., it's my guess he'll pop-up on WBZ-1030.

However, while I think WTKK-96.9 will do anything in it's power to try to keep him, they won't for the simple reason that Severin's new show and WBZ are under the same corporate ownership, and that by WBZ picking him up, it won't bump much (until a few months ago, it would not have bumped any) of WBZ's daytime all-news block.

Had Severin's live feed been during the day, 'BZ probably wouldn't have picked him up.

Expect "Jay Severin Is Coming To Newsradio 1030" spots to start soon, and don't be surprised if his show originates from 1170 Soldiers Field Road. I think 'BZ will try to pressure him to move to Boston and use their studios as the show's home base. This also means that WBZ would still be 24/7 local programming, although one of it's local shows (Jay Severin) would be nationally broadcast.

Of course, if Infinity launches a "Free FM" format in Boston, Severin could still pop-up there......

Does Severin even have any reason to be on Free FM? He's going to be on Free FM outlets WKRK (Detroit) and WJFK (Washington), but some of these moves make no sense. WKRK is entirely hot talk, and is adding more hot talk when Howard is replaced with Rover. How Infinity plans to combine a political talker with an entirely hot talk station is beyond me.

Severin also will be on Washington D.C.'s WJFK, a Free FM which has a mostly hot talk blend. Save for Bill O'Reilly, the station's chiefly hot talk blend would seem unlikely to carry over listeners from "Don and Mike", which will preceed Severin. Similarly, Severin would not seem to carry many listeners into "Loveline", which follows Severin. If Infinity is just looking for a Washington outlet for Severin, that's one story. But if Infinity believes that a conservative talker on a hot talk station will work, they may be unpleasantly surprised.

Re: Jay Severin

In Phildelphia, Jay Severin is scheduled to be broadcast over Infinity's WPHT-1210, which is a "mainstream" AM talk station, which carries (among others) Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

That's where Severin's show would make sense. Note that he's not going on 94.1 Free FM (WYSP).

Somewhat similar situation in Dallas, where Severin will be heard on KRLD-1080, a station that appears somewhat similar to WBZ (though with more talk). Infinity isn't putting Severin on it's local hot talker, 105.3 Free FM (KLLI).
