Shake up at Citadel Bham???

I have heard there are lots of rumors floating down the halls of Citadel Birmingham.
Staff changes and full station overhauls are the top. Seems their BIG plans aren’t working on the FM side. Is this just fluff from my friend, or does anyone have some real suggestions as to what I am hearing.

Well, nothing's really working for them on the FM side at all, so I wouldn't be shocked to see some kind of change on all four stations. As for the extent to which they would change, who knows? I doubt we'll see any format flips(unless Cox does flip WZZK and/or WNCB) or any major personalities gone, just a bunch of managers exploring other opportunities.

OO, OO!
Maybe we'll get a few more country stations out of the deal. As the trends go, all changes in local radio are negative (to the listening audience). Therefore, I will assume even worse changes. I hope I'm wrong!
______________

if citadel does overhaul all it's stations, what if any impact do you predict it will make upon the rick and bubba show?
______________

If ZZK did flip for something other than country, then definitely a country station could be born over at Citadel...Birmingham can handle two country stations (possibly more). Any predictions? I am willing to lay my opinion of what is going to happen out there...here goes:

104.7 WZZK becomes New Country 104.7 - WZZK
New Country 97.3 becomes Heaven 97 WAGG or Contemporary Christian.
Heaven 610 WAGG becomes ESPN 610 or if 97 goes Contemporary Christian stays as Heaven 610 WAGG.

If I am totally wrong and WZZK goes CHR or Alternative or something else then 100.5 the X could wind up country. There will be always two fm country stations though. The X at 100.5 I would vote as most possible at Citadel to flip to something different even if 104.7 stays country for that matter.

Somewhere in the mix, recently displaced Mark and Mack will probably show up at one of these stations in mornings.

I have been hearing this for awhile from an associate who works in the sales department. I know for a fact Hot 107.7 current format is done, and expect a format change later this year. That station is barely breaking even from what I heard and the ratings are starting to tumble downward. Citadel's main hope with that station was to put a dent in KISS (primarily) also JAMZ, but instead both have rebounded.

Hot would have to go full-blown Urban AC. But the demographic is already oversaturated with 3 Urban AC/Oldies on the AM in addition to KISS. Basically, all they would have to do is do what KISS does but better with more new music quicker and all local line-up & very community-oriented. They would instantly have KISS reevaluating its stand and on its toes.

Hot could go full-blown Mainstream Urban or very Urban-leaning Rhythmic that is all-local catering to 18-34 demographic. A R&B heavy playlist during middays and overnights that steal the 25-34 women from KISS big time. The breaking of newer music quicker and a wider variety of hip hop and R&B during the 6-10a, 2-6p, & 6-10p timeslots would chip away at JAMZ in 18-25 majorly.

A lack of music focus and undefined target demographic (18-49????), and Michael Baisden is what is hurting Hot. The bright spots are the morning show, Tosha Simone, who is better suited for middays, and frequency of adding new songs faster than either of Cox's urbans. However, they have a powerful signal that is seriously going to waste because of the all-over-the-place Urban format.
______________

It does too much syndication business to be messed with. If they weren't on in other markets, they'd undoubtedly be out on their ears. If some Citadel station goes country or the contract for JB&B on Rock 99 runs out, I could see them being moved to another station and a better-fitting morning show going on Y.

If any of this is true, then I believe that The X and Hot 107.7 will be gone later on this year.

It could be when March 31, 2006 (one year since the switchover) rolls around both stations will be totally different than they were when The X moved to 100.5 and Hot 107.7 was born.
