Shake up at KPNX????

I've read that the Tegna affiliate in Seattle has and is currently
undergoing a major shakeup. Could we be that fortunate here
in Phoenix???? Are they not one of the lowest rated newscasts
in many of the time slots????

TEGNA stations around the country have been offering "early" retirement packages mostly to those older than 55 with 15 years or more at the station. I believe 4 "old timers" took the buyout at KING in Seattle. but there have been similar stories at other TEGNA stations. I was kind of surprised that nothing has been mentioned about KPNX.

As I posted in the Seattle thread, the buyouts were not offered to everybody (and it apparently depended on each station). For example, if the two main anchors both qualified, only one was offered. At KPNX, it may be that they have already purged the oldtimers. Over the 11 years that I've been here, they have gotten rid of all of the older reporters. If you look at the anchors, perhaps Curtis and Cooper would qualify, but that would leave them with a "green" main anchor team. Perhaps Brahm Resnick would qualify as well, if his newspaper years were counted.

At KPNX, there simply doesn't seem to be anyone left to cut :)

And to add to that point, Lin Sue Cooper basically took her own buyout to flee KPNX for Hospice of the Valley.

I think the stations most affected are those that came from other companies such as Belo. Gannett ran a joint newspaper-TV operation in Phoenix for 15 years, and as part of the newspaper business cuts probably did affect KPNX.

And don't forget that Gannett did a newspaper enployee buyout about 9 or 10 years ago. I had a friend who had 25 years at the Republic and got nearly a year's salary.
