Shake Up at WOAI/KTKR

Nope his e-mail terminated--guess we will find out soon enough. Good guy. Talented.

Please forgive an uninformed out of the market question, but what is it that Lundy did at WOAI? What are the changes that seemed to rankle listeners?

I don't know if these are the changes that rankled people, but the changes that come to my mind that Lundy made are.

Moving curmudgeon-with-a-following Charlie Parker from PM drive to AM drive at WOAI, then to mornings at Ticket 760, then to evenings at Ticket 760, each time with different partners.

Moving the Thompson Brothers from evenings at Ticket 760 to PM Drive at WOAI.

Adding and extending Sean Hannity to afternoons at WOAI, so the station is syndicated from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Bringing in Joe Pagliarulo, a New Yorker who grew up in Florida and who revels in his own lack of local knowledge, for AM drive.

The arrival of Joe Pags was followed by the departure of veteran traffic reporter Betsy Britton and veteran news reporter Bob Guthrie from WOAI. Their replacements seem to provide a more playful collection of sidekicks for Joe Pags - so that he has someone with whom to discuss "American Idol" and the pop-culture news of the day.

Grantchester writes: WHAT?!?! I heard Bob Guthrie doing a newscast last month. He just celebrated 50 years at WOAI last year. Believe me, no petty Ops Man or P.D. could fire Bob Guthrie, so long as L. Lowry Mays draws breath. The website indicates he is the mid-day anchor, so apparently he is no longer co-anchoring morning drive news...I would bet he asked for a change, so he would no longer have to get up at 3 in the morning.

My mistake. I thought Guthrie was gone from the station. I have almost no interest in the right-wing talkers they air on WOAI from 9-5, so I wouldn't have heard Guthrie on the air during the day. The tone of the morning show definitely changed after he left it around the first of the year. He would play along with Joe Pags sometimes, but since most primetime television was past his bedtime, he wasn't able to contribute much to the discussion of American Idol.
